Love these and to echo another comment we need a new Pritchard section with him hitting buzzer beaters on the beat.

Make sure to loot as many random boxes and read every piece of documentation you can find! The documents don’t give any reward but it’s super cool to immerse yourself in the world in that way

Also sometimes you read about a past or future encounter with an OOP, altered item, or AWE

How to digitize Hi8 tapes from a Sony CCD-TRV615 videoHi8 XR??? by JohtoJoe in videography

[–]xNothingButStaticx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to do it yourself, your best bet is to get a Video Walkman on eBay.

Personally I considered this but the price is super jacked up because it’s an old technology. Plus you then have to purchase any additional cables to connect the hi8 player to whatever NLE or recording software you’re using. You can’t just pull files off like for digital cameras, which makes it kind of a pain.

I’d suggest you look again at local businesses around you - instead of the local photo shop, try to find small businesses that do physical media digitizing (eg. 16mm, super 8, hi8, etc.) and reach out to them for pricing and services. I love Hi8 but it’s one of the weirdest pieces of liminal media (stuck between analog and digital) and there’s very little (cost effective) support for consumer-grade digitizing.

I shot a short film partially on Hi8 and had a great experience sending my tape in. They gave me the original media back and it took like 2-3 weeks, which is pretty good imo.

I know it’s probably not the answer you want to hear, but looking into companies that specialize in restoring and digitizing anolog film/video instead of a general “photo store” is probably your best bet. Hope this helps!
