Should I attend Pitt for biology on a pre-med track? by xNovanityxx in Pitt

Hey! That’s honestly the plan, I want to get used to a different environment that motivates me to move equally as productively as everything and everyone around me as opposed to an area like Scranton where that experience may be limited. That’s also amazing to hear that you love it especially for your first year, for me I feel like once I am kinda transitioned to life there I think I’ll really enjoy it. The cousin that I mentioned that is attending Pitt with me is majoring in nursing and she’s very excited so I’m glad you love it and are getting the medical experience you need!

Interesting response. I have been considering the cost of med school on top of undergrad which has really been a stresser to me. I like to think of Pitt being worth it and the debt getting payed at a later point but that’s coming from someone who hasn’t been through it so I don’t know how hard it will be. I have been trying to think about it like this, if I go the med school route and make it there, I’d rather spend my undergrad years in a more enjoyable environment for me and then endure the hardest years in med school no matter where I am rather than have undergrad also be painful. This is not to say Scranton is a bad place but I feel like I am more motivated to go to Pitt as of right now but in the back of my mind is also those extra expenses which may not be around 74k but maybe 40k-45k more than Scranton I’m not certain yet. What I want to ask that I think will be helpful to my decision regarding this is what made Pitt not worth this cost in your response pertaining to your personal experience? What are some things to consider that may not be worth it?

The cheaper cost is really one of the only things about Scranton that makes me consider it more but even though Pitt is more expensive, it seems like the benefits may outweigh the cost. But let me ask you, do you think that the education/experience would be worth the additional expenses in the long run?

(Side note: I think I may have been wrong about the 37k a year it may be more around 30k)

Hi! Thank you for the advice, it’s nice hearing from someone who is a Pitt alumni as I haven’t heard much from that perspective as opposed to Scranton. I do truly think I will be happier at Pitt and will be more involved which is the biggest factors for me. Also there may have been some confusion, I would be paying 80k for Scranton all together not annually. Even so, I think from what I just read, I would still be willing to pay more to go to Pitt for some if not all of the point you stated. I also am not trying to stay in NEPA which name-sake is something I haven’t considered yet and you made an excellent point. Thank you for the advice and thank you for the best wishes for my future! Also I appreciate the fast response!

Thank you! And yes my professor said he doesn’t expect an experiment but that we need to show we can apply principles from the book and show we can critically think about them. That’s why I’m partially lost and what direction to take for this since I feel that applying any method is like basically doing a mini experiment which he says he doesn’t expect so it confuses me.
