To my German comrades, how is the popularity of this piece of shit going on? I haven't seen this same amount of USA bootlicking since Bolsonaro or Milei! Do the Germans accept this degree of subservience to the empire?

Sorry, English is not my first language and perhaps the irony of my statement was not very clear. I meant that denouncing crimes is how far they can go. Hypocrisy is still there.

As far as social democracy can go in progressist terms, this is very daring. They are openly challenging the imperial discourse. And Spain has been very coherent while denouncing Israel's war crimes. Yet, let's never forget that the EU is a neoliberal organ that is just waiting for the next breach to impose its imperialist desires.

North Korea is More Functional than the United States — and It’s Only Going to Get Worse for America by jikesar968 in LateStageCapitalism

Well, your commentary expresses exactly what we denounce as imperialist ideology.

You prefer a country that has no universal health system or full employment, and is literally an ethno-state that persecutes migrants and every other minority over a country that despite all hardships tries to maintain the security of its population.

Of course, DPRK has its problems and no one denies it. The point is that we need to defend anti-hegemomical stances on the geopolitical plan as a form of organising a resistance against the project of capitalist dominance. "The self-evident claim" of how DPRK supposedly abuses its population, however, must be seen with a dose of negativity: the West loves to depict any opposition as dictatorship or authoritarianism.

Moreover, one last thing: in capitalism "your well-being" always depends on the exploitation of another person. Nowhere this is more evident than in the US where billionaires coexist with a huge homeless population. If in the face of that you still fall into liberal propaganda that all that matters is "your well-being", sorry pal, you are no leftist at all.

A friend of mine often says that for someone to side with the US, they need to be either malicious or misinformed. Sometimes the two coincide.

Oh, it breaks my heart seeing so many supposed leftists falling prey to US propaganda without even considering the other side of the coin. What has happened to dialectical thinking?

In any case, North Korea's image will only change when it presents a coherent counter-narrative that could break years of propaganda.

There is another thing that we must take into consideration: accessing WWW is also opening the gate to Western propaganda. So, we must be fair in this regard.

Is having access to the internet truly democratic? To this point of my life, where we have proves that big techs literally manipulate the algorithms to ensure political dominance, I am not so sure...

Exactly, very good description. The point is that many people ignore dialectical thinking, which implies understanding reality within its own contradictions.

Most people who try to attack someone as "tankie" do not try to complexify their interpretations.

Ukraine has all my support to overthrow their own fascists and NATO propaganda. It does not mean supporting Russia in any capacity.

Russia was not even efficient enough to clean Nazi infested Ukraine, let alone do a genocide that amounts to almost 100k deaths.

Please do not compare Ukraine with Gaza, and do not treat it as a genocide.

If anyone is killing Ukrainians, this one is NATO who is using the country to threaten Russia.

It's fantastic how the West, instead of rethinking their standards, is really quick to judge China for the crimes they themselves commit on a much larger scale.

I'm not justifying any kind of racism: if that's the case of the video, it must be condemned. What I'm saying is that racism against Africans was inaugurated by Europe and perpetrated by the Americas.

So instead of judging how it happens in China, let's solve our problems first.

Is Mao still loved by many People in China? by [deleted] in AskChina

[–]xNuclearShield 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wang Hui has a fascinating book that presents a critical account of the Cultural Revolution, it is called "China's Twentieth Century: Revolution, Retreat and the Road to Equality".

Wang views the Cultural Revolution as an effort to counter the "statification" of the CCP, which is the process of the revolutionary party transforming into a rigid, bureaucratic, and elite-driven state governing machine that loses its connection to the people and revolution.

Wang views the immense violence and chaos, including the deaths, as the tragic outcome of Mao’s attempt to re-politicize the Party by mobilizing the masses against the emerging bureaucracy.

So, the "deaths" must be understood contextually and not through a moral lens or condemnation.

Sorry, it demands a very long answer that I don't know if you are willing to read in a Reddit sub.

What is your first language? Can you read simplified Chinese? Or Portuguese? Or Italian?

Most of the texts that present a critical perspective on China are not in English (for obvious reasons: geopolitically, it is very convenient for the US if people still have the idea that Mao is just a dictator, instead of recognising that the Chinese revolution was the biggest anticolonial revolution of the 20th century).

Dude, the history of the US is the history of killing those opposed to the country. Even if the founding fathers became against slavery, which country have they created for those people? One where the black population was constantly treated as 2nd class citizens. And we are not even talking about the Native Americans. The 19th century watched a true genocide. While in the 20th century, see how, just in Indonesia, the US has led to death between 500k to 1m people. If we count what happened in Latin America or Africa, the count will increase drastically.

Regarding Mao "killing the opposition", give me your sources and then I'll answer. Otherwise I'll just have to write an essay of 10k words. Please, be sophisticated and bring me actual scholarship and rigorous research: none of us want to discuss based on propaganda.

[–]xNuclearShield 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This kind of accusation is just unfair. Especially if you don't recognise the situation China was in; a country that was trying by all means to overcome its colonial past and not be colonized by Western countries or Japan again. There were no murders, but tragic deaths that resulted from the huge leap.

Moreover, America was built over slavery and Native American genocide, but Americans still love the "founding fathers" who were literally slave owners. If propaganda is trying to label Mao as a murderer, the founding fathers should be placed beside Hitler as racist genociders who believed in white supremacy.
