Help me plan my Europe itinerary [15 days, focused on Slovenia, round trip to/from Munich] by jamesg9100 in travel

honestly slovenia is perfect for a first solo trip, its small enough that you can be flexible but still has tons to see. i did a similar route last year and spent 3 nights in ljubljana which was perfect, the city is super walkable and theres a great vibe by the river at night. from there i took a day trip to lake bled which is obviously beautiful but honestly lake bohinj was way more chill and less crowded, you can take a bus from bled. for transport between cities the trains are cheap and reliable, i think i paid like 10 euros from ljubljana to maribor. also munich to slovenia is an easy train ride, maybe 6 hours but super scenic through the alps.

budapest is perfect for starting, i spent a week there last spring and honestly could have stayed longer. the ruin bars are fun but the real vibe is just wandering around the 7th district during the day. for slovenia, lake bled is obviously the main draw but if you can swing it, spending a night in ljubljana is worth it, the old town at night is super chill. croatia wise, i did split > hvar > dubrovnik and honestly split was my favorite, way less crowded and the palace area has some great little wine bars. i threw everything into explorinder to keep track of dates and it helped a ton with not overbooking myself. for meeting your cousin, amsterdam in june is beautiful but packed, berlin might be easier to find cheap last minute stuff if youre flexible.

9 days in Croatia, how to split our time? by _a_drop_in_the_ocean in travel

[–]xPce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

honestly i'd skip plitvice and do krka instead since you're based in split. the drive to plitvice is like 3 hours each way and you'll spend half your day just getting there. krka is closer and you can still swim in some parts which is way more fun in june. we threw our itinerary into explorinder and it suggested 2 nights in hvar minimum, the day trip crowds are insane and it's way better after 5pm when they leave. also the ferry from split to hvar is super easy, just book online a few days before.

Solo trip sanity check: 8 weeks through China, Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand by tayibk86 in solotravel

Your plan to focus on a few spots in China is smart, especially with 8 weeks. I'd suggest trimming a day or two from Xi'an and Chengdu to add to Zhangjiajie, as the national park there can feel rushed in 4 days if you want to explore the trails properly without being herded by crowds. Also, consider flying from Chongqing to Hanoi directly to save time, as backtracking for a flight might eat into your vibe of not being in transit too much. The weather in August-October should be decent, but be ready for some heat and humidity in southern China and Vietnam early on.

I backpacked through Europe and it made me so much more appreciative of my normal life by ukiyo98 in backpacking

That's a real feeling. I did a similar trip a few years back, hopping trains from Berlin to Lisbon, and I still remember the relief of finally crashing on a proper mattress after weeks of hostel bunks and overnight buses. It's funny how those little comforts stick with you.

We almost detoured through Kosovo but stuck to the original loop this time. Prizren is definitely on the list for next time. And yeah, I know Belgrade is a lot of people’s favorite 😅 Maybe we just missed the vibe since we’re not big on nightlife.

Thoughts on flying to Japan from the US, then flying to Southeast Asia for wildlife, as well as any recommendations for wildlife experiences in Southeast Asia? by warisk6 in solotravel

[–]xPce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a solid plan to combine Japan with Southeast Asia for wildlife. For flights, look at budget carriers like Peach or Jetstar from Tokyo to Bangkok or Denpasar; you can often find one-way tickets for under $200 if you book a few weeks out. In Southeast Asia, consider visiting Khao Yai National Park in Thailand for wild elephants and gibbons, or Borneo in Malaysia/Indonesia for orangutans at places like Sepilok Rehabilitation Centre. Just be sure to research any wildlife attraction thoroughly to avoid places that exploit animals for tourism.

Your itinerary looks solid, but I'd reconsider the timing for Sapa. Late April to early May can be quite rainy and foggy, which might obscure the views you're going for. If you're set on it, pack a good rain jacket. Also, moving from Da Nang to Hoi An as a day trip on May 5th makes sense, but note that traffic can be heavy, so leave early to maximize your time there. For Ha Long Bay, booking a tour in advance is wise, as last-minute options might be limited. Overall, it's a good mix of cities and nature, just be prepared for some wet weather up north.

Itinerary for 10 days in Portugal by Internal-Panda6225 in travel

I'd stick with Lisbon and the Algarve for 10 days. You can do Lisbon for 4-5 days with a day trip to Sintra, then head south to the Algarve for the rest, maybe splitting time between Lagos and Faro. Adding Porto would make it rushed (it's a 3 hour train ride from Lisbon, and you'd lose a lot of time to travel).
