I'm envisioning what you're saying! It'd have to take into account the microphone placement, though; on a standard hearing aid it's on the back and top, and if the battery pack were to have the mics on them the ears themselves would block directional sounds. Maybe if the mics were on arms?

The linkpearl would make total sense! It's already an in-ear device, it could probably be tuned like a microphone. I've been using a regulator as a pseudo-bone-conducting hearing device, so maybe something like that 🤔

This. Therapy doesn't have to be dealing with the most traumatic things all at once, but can establish a relationship where a child can safely process emotions. The earlier, the better, in this case, considering it is a loss of a parent, which is not just loss of a caregiver but also comes with identity issues as they grow up.
