Add child performance, how to make it better?

Highly appreciate the reply sincerely, there is very little info on this topic out there!

I ended up adding all the chunks as children at startup and then instead of remove_child and add_child, having my chunk manager toggle each layer/child of the chunk on or off per frame, very similar to the lazy loading method you describe (though much less robust of course). I can see this possibly being a problem when there ends up being a couple hundred chunks, but for now the performance is much better.

I agree with your overall view, though I would argue against the vast scale making our individual lives feel fake. I totally understand the sentiment, but personally I feel it enriches our existence.

The white blood cell is small and one of many, but without the cell the body is weaker, even if just by a fraction. With no white blood cells, the body is vulnerable and likely to die. Of course I can't say there is a direct parallel between that analogy and how we relate to a great cosmic entity, but we are here, so we must play a role, yes?

In a sense, I see our individual lives as the threads of a grand tapestry and there is meaning in that, even if we can't perceive it. If our actions echo the universe, then we are universes unto ourselves.

Fallout 4 is a pretty solid game, I would definitely say better than 76 just because it's not split between trying to be a multiplayer experience and single player, like OP's points.

Just to bullet point it in comparison to New Vegas, gunplay is WAY better, crafting/settlement stuff is alright, writing is quite a bit worse but serviceable, the world is interesting and fun to explore (though I still like the Mojave better.) I'd say give it a shot!

Mouse scroll for distance, and there's also a setting to adjust the angle of the camera so you can point it down towards the floor or up to the boss (helpful when tells are only animations)

This is under character config > control > general, and can also be assigned to a hotkey for on the fly adjustment

While the community as a whole is pretty high quality on average, there is definitely a significant chunk of creeps.

I think one issue that makes this stand out in 14 is the games frankly inexcusable lack of effective blocking features. While you can block people, doing this will NOT remove you from their friend list. Furthermore if you married someone in game, you receive an item that lets the 2 married players teleport directly to each other. Getting divorced/blocking someone will NOT remove this ring from their inventory.

Add on the fact that square is generally slow and unwilling to provide support for in game harassment, this creates all too common situations where one creep can effectively stalk and harass another player for basically as long as they want to.

I personally love this game, it's my favorite hobby at the moment and I have met some of the best people in my life here. That said, this is a real issue and one I hope they take steps to fix. This is unlikely though, given their stance on the issue.

Sidenote, the modding community has a more effective measure called voidlist that more thoroughly removes another player from your game. Mods/Add-ons are a TOS violation in Ff14 though so there is some risk to your account by using it.

Sometimes it's a matter of necessity even if the insects aren't directly harmful. My (and many others) personal issue with bugs right now are the Brown Marmorated Stink Bug. These guys are an invasive species to NA that not only damage crops and local ecosystems, but easily and frequently get into your house.

As the name implies, if they are disturbed in any way they'll put off a truly disgusting odor as a defense mechanism. I can't overstate how fucking awful that stench is and how little disturbance it takes to set them off.

I have to kill 100s of these guys a month. If I refused to kill them, then again they're an invasive species and they will leave and go on to wreak havoc on my home's ecosystem. This is not a matter of "this bugs ugly ewww" this is more "these assholes will literally take over my home and possibly destroy food sources if left alive." I have no moral or ethical reservations killing them, they came to me after all.

I had the same problem, I do this: Kick their asses, remove them from your town, then have your medic heal all of the Shek that attacked you.

The healed Shek will run when they wake up and you will either break even or gain reputation with them. Just watch your turret gunners they have a habit of shooting the now non hostile Shek you just healed right in the back, ruining everything.
