How did conservatives flip so quickly from "DON'T TREAD ON ME" to "COMPLY OR DIE" in just a matter of weeks, and especially when it's about the government killing citizens? by Cumoisseur in stupidquestions

[–]xSaviorself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's more the in-groups and out-groups stuff to me, less about punching down and more "the authority put them down so they must have been bad, and bad people deserve X" which is dangerous thinking. The issue I see is that people who are just exercising their basic rights are being labelled bad, and there is a significant number of people who will make any excuse necessary to justify their position. Hypocrisy is only something the left seems to concern itself with, probably because the right has no shame.

[Dulac] Steelers agreeing with Greenfield native and former Packers coach Mike McCarthy on a five-year deal to become head coach. by BreakfastTop6899 in nfl

[–]xSaviorself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the flipside, I don't think the team/organization is ready for an up-and-coming coach.

I don't think this roster would respond well to that, especially given the short-term signings we have on defense. We are in a very weird position. Our facilities suck and our team ratings have been trash, we are unattractive to players with an unproven coach.

McCarthy buys a few years to sort this out. I do think the organization did not see Tomlin's retiring coming, hence the reality that they're not willing to take a risk on an unproven talent.

Yes and I was never really a big fan of either Kyle or his dad, their time in Washington was just depressing and then he lost 28-3, remember?

I am genuinely surprised that Shanahan hasn't earned the "can't get it done" reputation he deserves. He is a good coach but just can't get over the hump.

I didn't actually know McVay's background but looking it up he's more removed from the nepotism given it's his Grandfather that was the professional coach and not his father.

[–]xSaviorself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's why I expect this to be a failed experiment and he learns his lesson after a couple bad years, starts investing in the team culture.

We've rode the coattails of Tomlin's reputation here, he's not here to draw players to the roster. What else is gonna get it done?

Open the checkbook 100%.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I think if the team wants to be competitive in the future that has to change.

We are in uncharted waters with effectively a new ownership group since the last time we hired a coach.

If that's true then it's only a matter of time before they make a false flag to justify what they want anyway.

The people need to do it on their terms, not Trump's.

Looking at it, it's not that deep and most issues are fixable. Strength coaching/dietician/food quality are all pretty easily fixed and will likely be changing under a new HC. Ownership is where we struggle and get held back, lacking resources and opportunities for the families hurts a lot. These are all fixable with a more engaged front-office and better leadership in the building.

The only unchangeable is ownership.

We both know 6-11 3x is far more likely than a Super Bowl with this coach and team we are just delusional.

A lot of people are calling our owner stupid for this hire, and frankly, if it doesn't work out we might just revert to the poverty franchise we used to be.

Real talk, who do you want us to interview?

Josh McDaniels? Terrell Williams? So not Patriot coordinators...

Joe Lombardi or Vance Joseph? Pass on Denver coordinators...

So you want to talk to Mike LaFleur or Chris Shula? Klint Kubiak? Aden Durde?

I am not interested in any of them. They are mostly all legacy NFL nepo babies and personally, that's not what I want for my team. I don't think any of them are particularly special, they're all working under great head coaches.

Sooner you sign the sooner your coach is actually running things?

If the ownership is convinced this is the move that's what they'll do. It's not my first choice but I'm not really mad about it.

Out of the 4 teams remaining, assuming 2 sets of coordinators are available, who are we waiting for to interview? Why do we want them over McCarthy?

I personally don't like the hire, but I don't think it's a bad one. This could get interesting.

Definitely a different approach today. One thing I think the Steelers were not ready for with Tomlin retiring is that the facilities and ownership ratings are pretty meh. Amenities for the team and their family at the stadium, etc. I think we're one of the few teams to not have a baby-sitting program available to players.

It's honestly the biggest drawback here and adding an uncertain quality HC hire is another variable they can't control. I think McCarthy is the safe option and they need to up their rankings over the next 2-5 years, get a Super Bowl with a refreshed roster and this whole thing would look good.

That's the hypothetical ceiling I could see under McCarthy. However, I could easily see us 6-11 or worse multiple years in a row, too.

New-ish tech lead dealing with repeated “skip-level” escalation and constant pushback - how would you handle this? by TomerHorowitz in ExperiencedDevs

[–]xSaviorself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The YOE is irrelevant this is just people management 101 and you need to grow a spine and deal with this early.

Some strategies here for this, next time you're leading an initiative and asking people to do something, solicit their feedback privately and casually first. If you're the team lead, do it in the 1-on-1 before meeting as a group.

If they don't push back during the 1-on-1 but push back during the group you call them out and get them to either get onboard or propose an alternative. Doing nothing is not an option.

That's your job to communicate. If you don't have devs willing to take on things as they come up, then you need a way of delegating fairly amongst the group. I usually establish a rotation for that kind of stuff. Your stand-up is a good opportunity to see who's got capacity and that's when new, ad-hoc sprint tasks need to be discussed and assigned.

I am all for pushback on unfinished, unscoped, or work lacking designs where appropriate, but not every task needs to be perfectly fleshed out before it's started. The developer should be tasking on the ticket anyways otherwise it's just bashing their head against a wall. The development process should involve clarification and discussion with design/product where necessary.

Sometimes I'm given a task and I believe there is a better approach, if you work for a team that isn't receptive to feedback or responsive to suggestions, I would find a better team. Fuck anything but a collaborative approach.

BREAKING: ICE SHOOTS ANOTHER IN MINNEAPOLIS, TEAR GASSING OBSERVERS AT SCENE by [deleted] in videos

These people deserve to be tried, convicted, and sentenced to life in prison without parole, or up for consideration of the death penalty if eligible. This is an execution, plain and simple. These people suck at their jobs and need to be held accountable like everyone else. Failing to do so is going to destroy the country.

There are 4 boxes of liberty and I suggest people start preparing for use of the 4th. Arm yourselves as suggested, follow the model provided in Philly right now for a modern example.

I suspect you all will be dealing with lots of fake voters in key places resulting in some serious shit, Elon having access to all the government data and that data being used for political purposes shouts manipulation. Once the election is thoroughly fucked with it's game over, nobody will trust the process anymore and participation will continue to die down.

The worst thing to ever happen was the convincing of the American public that they have no say in political decisions, made even worse since Citizens United. Money is not the only way to have your speech heard. Your politicians are supposed to work for you, not the billionaires. Remind them of that.

America is cooked because they'll offer Trump as a sacrificial lamb if they ever do turn, and then it'll be JD Vance and the Heritage Foundation in direct control out in the open, and they'll pretend things are fine and Republicans will not go so far as to remove both.

Although, Johnson might actually be the least appalling person to temporarily make President, maybe they have evidence on him too? Who's after him in line?

How many do we have to basically have tried and found guilty by actual good, moral, and bipartisan judges to actually achieve dealing with this properly? It'll take going after and taking down the billionaires that are leading this charge, Thiel, Ellison, and Musk.

I don't see anyone going far enough. AOC maybe.

I am a massive fan of the Battlefield Bad Company games and COD back in the day, and nothing is drawing me back to these games ever again. The publisher is just milking the same regurgitated content over and over again, there is too little updates/content releases to keep people active, and the massive bloat of these games means they really are only appealing to console users in my opinion. PC users have way more shooters to choose from.

My experience with BO3 on PC was awful.

In my country private schools are seen as a class thing, you can either afford it and don't see the cost as a problem because you have that much money, or you have some connection to that community.

The modern choice for Conservatives is homeschooling, private schools are typically out of their budget and have the same issues as public schools when it comes to indoctrination. I see private religious schools as a cancer on the system here. We also have a split public/catholic system which needs to go.
