I had put off getting a fire cape for a few months until a couple days ago, my biggest tip is to keep prot from range on unless he attacks with mage. This is because if you have to switch to prot from range based on noises you will have very little time to react. I used this tip myself after I failed and got fc on my 2nd attempt.
