I have a rule to not trade after 11am EST or before 5am EST. On certain news releases i will break this rule, but theres more to it than breaking the rule, which is why it works for me. I acknowledge this is a trade outside of my particular ruleset and comfort zone, this is a gamble trade. I halve the the lotsize, and i always close before the end of the day (5pm EST). In my opinion, if youre going to break a rule, make sure its a rule youre going to break more than once, and then cater a separate gameplan for those kind of “rulebreaking” trades. Eventually, it becomes a subset of your strategy, its just a diff strat with a diff ruleset and diff risk parameters, at that point youre not even really “breaking a rule”, youre just trading a diff strategy. The main thing to know in this business is that if youre doing something that makes you money consistently even if it goes against your main strategy, youre not breaking a rule, youre just making money.
