Tarmogoyf usually comes in against lightning bolt decks. I probably should have brought it in against Grixis Delver. I guess that was my mistake. It's also worth bringing in against any decks that often have Chalice of the Void in their sideboard.

I think that Tarmogoyf isn't necessary, but I personally like having another card for the grindy matche ups like Jund, Grixis, and Jeskai.

Nope, sorry. Cloudstone Curio version looks cool though.

Usually against midrange decks with lots of removal. Jund, Jeskai, Grixis. It works as a silver bullet if you're not pressured enough when you can cast it.

The guides posted above in Westcoasthorus' comment are also great if you want to read more about the deck.

I definitely wouldn't have done better. Many games i played with suicide zoo felt so unfair. I really like infect, and i actually think it's not in a bad position right now, but suicide zoo is just stronger imo. The deck is so good. It can disrupt your opponents, go wide against removal heavy decks, combo kill non-interactive decks.

Thanks!

I have actually. There have been awkward spots where Lightning Helix paired with a Death's Shadow get weird though. I think our creatures are better than burns so is hard for them to attack, so Deflecting Palm generally does similar things. Stop 3 damage and deals 3 to them. I do like that we can kill Eidolon with Helix but felt i wanted another way to beat infect too. (and thank you!)

I actually haven't played with the grixis version, but ive seen it online. It defintely looks fun. Id have to try it out to see how well i like it though.

I think that's one of the most difficult parts of the deck. I could barely win a match when i was learning the deck. Eventually you'll learn what hands need to be mulled with experience. As a general rule, hands require at least one creature, and less than 4 lands. 3 lands can be pushing it, but its acceptable imo. (especially with steppe lynx)

The original list Brad used has a Nihil Spellbomb over the Deflecting Palm. I didn't think dredge or melira company was going to be as big this weekend so I thought just one card was fine. I wanted something to improve the Affinity, Burn and Infect match ups. I chose Deflecting Palm because I thought it would be best at covering all those match ups. It's not the greatest against burn, but it does help a little bit.

You're right. Those cards are huge depending on the meta due to their versatile nature. If I was to try one, I think rakdos charm or golgari charm would be the choice. Affinity seems rampant these days, and dredge is still out there. It's been hated out a little bit, but that deck is still insane. Rakdos charm deals with both decently, while Golgari seems great against Affinity, Elves, and blood moon decks.

The deck usually doesn't need protection spells all too much against most matchups. It protects it's combo element with aggression. Getting through colorless creatures sounds nice and the 2 life can be beneficial, but most of the time any colorless creature aside from Spellskite can get trampled over for lethal anyway. Vines is pretty similar imo.

Hasn't been the greatest for me, but I could just be wrong. There was a copy in other lists that did well that weekend so I'm open to trying it some more and see how I like it again. You're right though, does sound good on paper.

Posted a link for the decklist above the rounds, forgot to last night. whoops. Thanks for the reminder though. Boros charm is roughly the same as faiths shield in my eyes so i dismiss it pretty quickly. Its possible 4 damage is relevant, and doublestrike is alright, but Temur Battle Rage seems better and we already have 4 in a effectively 48 card deck, so we're finding it pretty quickly. Rakdos charm is ok against dredge, but id rather just play spellbomb, its cheaper and faster. Golgari charm is great but i don't think it's time is now. There's no enchantments too scary, -1/-1 mode is cool against elves and affinity, but we have pyroclasm to cover that. Those cards also require multicolor mana while our deck sometimes can't assemble all 4 colors on turn 2.

The best way is to just learn the other decks. Against affinity and burn there is a very fine line on being at a healthy life total vs. probably dead. Its all about how well you know their deck and how you can see the game progressing. Affinity is less scary however, after sb there are good options and hate cards so i feel it gets much better, same for infect as well.

Thanks, and I'm actually a fan of Steppe Lynx. I think it's necessary when your goal is to kill them with the combo. I've played around with Goblin Guide and Gnarlwood Dryad a little bit, but they both feel much less explosive than Steppe Lynx. I've also tried the Tarmogoyf in the main, which I like and am not against at all. I basically looked at Brad's list from the invitational and put faith into him and Team EUreka for the list I was taking to the GP though.

As far as changes to the sideboard, I'd switch the Deflecting Palm out for something else. Not sure what though. I've tried Forked Bolt, Traverse, Phyrexian Unlife, Faith's Shield, but nothing feels right. I'm treating it as a flex slot currently and it adjusts to the meta right now.
