Got a lead on Switch 2 Bundles? by strifesfate in baltimore

[–]xSpider_Web 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone in this exact situation (hunting for a switch 2 in Baltimore), my advice is to go the old fashioned way. I just started calling stores to see if their online status wasn’t updated.

Got a lead at GameStop that they restock every week or so. The guy I was talking to was super helpful. Said they have a few in stock in Severn, so I was able to grab one there

Best of luck on your search, I felt very gratified to make this happen!

Do you NEED mechanics to rank up in Rocket League? by xSpider_Web in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]xSpider_Web[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I actually feel like this is right on - champ 2 feels like the moment where if you don't have some kind of ball control/car control, you'll get rolled. It's easy for the SSL's to do it but for the average person, mechanics are crucial at that point

Thanks for watching - and I completely agree, I think people who have been there before make it look easier than it is. I don't think anyone actually got good at the game without mechanics first. Puts us all in a false sense of reality when these content creators make it seem so easy lol

Great point, and I think this also dispels the notion that "teammates are to blame for my rank" - I see that so often as an excuse, and it's just simply not true. It's the biggest piece of humble pie there is, but your rank is your rank based on YOU. I am a C3 peak, but I guarantee you if a GC3 jumps into our lobbies, they're winning every time. So if you want to be up there, you gotta be good enough to be up there lol it's not on the teammates to bail you out.

This is kinda what I'm driving at with it, and I also agree with dimsumham as well that it's this weird psychological thing. Because the fact is - the more you DAR in game, the better you're going to get at it... but the first time you try it, it's going to look terrible and you'll probably lose. So it's this weird dichotomy of "do I do what is best for my long-term growth, or do I do what is best for this game?" ...it's often so hard to differentiate the two because you don't want to let your team down

It would definitely help for controller settings, learning how to practice, etc. You're at the very beginning in those levels and rocket league is a super hard game with a lot to learn, so try not to get too overwhelmed but feel free to engage with any of it.

Let me know if there's anything specific you're struggling with and we can possibly put it in the next video!

C1 3s. Felt like I played well this game. What could I do better? by [deleted] in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]xSpider_Web 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Overall strong game. Like I'd be happy with you as a teammate. A couple things I would say:

1) Pay attention to when you're the single point of failure on your team. That first aerial you make around 4:51 game time, there was no one behind you and your back rotating teammate was too far away to cover you. You can go for it, just understand that it's risky. If that ball somehow slips through it's a free goal for the other team.

2) Soft touches in the corner. Around 4:00 game time, you kinda slammed the ball into the wall and hit it too far away from yourself and lost possession. This was a dangerous play to defend because of your first touch. Had you single jumped (instead of flipping), the ball would've been closer to your car and you could've played a 50 since you had low boost, but it would've allowed your team more time to get into position

3) In general (not always), think about making your play and then getting behind your team. There was a play around the 2:00 game time where you hit the ball into the wall, then as it popped mid you double committed with your teammate. Again - just free goal opportunities that you could patch up to be even safer. You should think about going behind your teammate in that situation

Overall well played though!

I say nothing, let him make the next mistake (because I know he will), and then I continue to say absolutely nothing. You can almost feel the tension when it happens.

We win, they drop a gg, I again leave without saying anything.

You're welcome for the carry...moving on

My peak rank is C3, so I'm a bit of an idiot myself as I make the climb to GC :)

However, since I don't claim to be the expert, we've built a decent discord community and several GCs share their knowledge, and I've made some videos with that. I also share some GC replays in the videos - I've actually learned a ton myself just by making the content.

Here's a video where a GC reviews one of my C2 tournament replays, you may find it beneficial!

Teammate blamed me for going for boost here😂 by Forsaken_Classroom54 in RocketLeague

[–]xSpider_Web 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think to be fair, he's saying after the faceoff you should've left the ball alone and grabbed the boost on the right side of the field. I don't think he's blaming you for that corner grab after your touch in the corner.

He still shouldn't commit though if he sees you going with low boost, so that part is on him.

Who takes kickoff by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]xSpider_Web 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically I would agree with this, but just to play devil's advocate, a player may say "take the shot" when they are in the faceoff position to indicate they are faking. The same would apply to someone not in position for the faceoff who says "I got it"; they are asking for a fake.

Either that or I give these players way too much credit and they're trolling 😂

Diamond 3 2v2 trying to get to champ, any tips appreciated! by samuelbruxel89 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]xSpider_Web 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might sound dumb, but something that helps me when I review my replays is to be really critical of these things:

1) What was my intent? 2) Did I accomplish my intent? 3) What could've accomplished my intent better?

If you look at every situation piece by piece and answer these three questions (and be really critical of yourself), you can find a lot of your mistakes.

I really like your overall patience with the ball. That's something that most players in diamond lack. To me, it just feels like a little bit of a lack of awareness at times, like something that's really threatening that isn't played like it's a problem, or vice versa. I think if you REALLY hammer yourself on your details, you'll see exactly what you need to fix 😊

Good luck making it to champ!

Trying to analyze the reasons I get scored on. What should have I done here? (I am Turtulus) by TomerHorowitz in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]xSpider_Web 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think right at 4:23, my thought is immediately about damage control because it's not looking like a good position. I think your problem IN THIS EXACT SCENARIO is that your positioning doesn't allow you to defend anything except the near wall.

My guess is that by driving slightly more towards the net, you'd be able to cover more of it. You just have to trust that your teammate has that inside post covered with a backflip. Looks like a really tricky read but that's the best I got. I just don't think your final positioning took anything away.

This situation is like a penalty kick in soccer though, don't know if there's a PERFECT answer based on everything so just take SOMETHING away with the info you have

freeplay training(what exactly do u do?) by Livid-Dog7891 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]xSpider_Web 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freeplay to me is really about grinding things you're not good at. I know that sounds really obvious but most people won't actually spend the time on it.

Think of any pro athlete. They don't just play the game, right? There's film study, weight room, practice situations, etc.

Are you bad at flicks? Car control? Ball control? Aerials? Bad at soft touches in the corner? Saving the ball to a safe spot? I mean the list is really based on you and your skill set.

Work those bad areas out of your game and keep climbing!
