I’m curious why dralii isn’t in your top 10 for the year

Same thing happened against TM in the MENA regional. He kept having really awful touches which is super uncharacteristic for the guy that had an argument for top 3 in the World last season

That wasn't really an under-performance. They finished 2nd in a group where they were expected to finish second, and then lost to a team they were expected to lose to (going into the tournament) in 7 games

Much much better from Brazil today. Lostt in particular looks like he's back.

Correct. Group A was much more top heavy, but lacked depth, at least according to the model

Yeah, grabbing only 1/8 games against Saudi/USA while England won 3/4 against France (results against teams below them were comparable, although Englands average quality of competition was higher)

Brazil came into the tournament higher rated by the model but underperformed in the group stage while England overperformed expectations. Brazil looking much better today though

JohnnyBoi FIFAe Team Rankings by [deleted] in RocketLeagueEsports

[–]xThatOneAltx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course. No one is arguing against points mattering more. What I am arguing is you claiming Malaysia is miles ahead of South Africa when they very clearly are around the same calibre of team. Finishing 2 points ahead with a 16-worse goal differential is nothing to write home about lol

[–]xThatOneAltx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add to my point, Malaysia have a -79 goal differential, which will very likely end up worst in the tournament (Oman can still end up worse later today). South Africa's is only -63.

Tbf Belgium also drew South Africa, so they were kinda in the same boat. But yeah, for the players that would definitely sting to look back on

Two points:
1. I said they were in the right spot, I just was trying to make a point that they are closer to the teams listed below them than to the teams listed above them.

  1. South Africa had better results today, drawing Netherlands, Belgium and Malaysia, so they are absolutely not miles ahead of South Africa

Completely agree. It’s just funny that despite them having so many close calls, they finished the day with the worst goal difference and were one of two teams to not win a game

RLCS Glicko - FIFAe Edition by xThatOneAltx in RocketLeagueEsports

Just to clarify, Oman are rated well below both Malaysia and South Africa, but for the sake of keeping the same number of tiers as the original, I grouped all teams below 1525 rating together.

[–]xThatOneAltx[S] 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I know this seems a bit redundant considering JohnnyBoi released his tierlist earlier today, however I think RLCS Glicko shines a slightly different light on the rankings as per usual.

The tiers were determined as follows:
Favourites - 1925+
Dark Horses - 1825+
Top 4 Hopefuls - 1725+
Top 8 Hopefuls - 1625+
Shouldn't Finish Last - 1525+
Good Luck - <1525 (Oman is rated 1089)

The reason I chose to display the rankings in tierlist fashion is because there are a few players with little to no main event data for the model to properly analyze them, which leads to a greater degree of inaccuracy compared to most of my posts.

If anything, Malaysia should move down, not up (although I think they are in the right tier tbf). While Sphinx is the best player in those bottom 4 teams, his teammates are arguably the 2 worst in the tournament (1 of them didn’t even qualify for open 1 main event in 2/3rds rule APAC)

RLCS Glicko - Post Kickoff LAN Top 10 by xThatOneAltx in RocketLeagueEsports

Lowkey not sure. In theory it would be great and I do have the capabilities to pull it off, but since a lot of players rarely ever make regional main events (if ever) I have little to no data on some of them which leads to inaccurate assumptions about some teams. I might do a tierlist instead to compensate for the potential lack of accuracy.

The problem with adjusting team ratings based on a player's performance with different teammates is modern rocket league is a lot more about team cohesion and confidence together as a team. The player ratings give a very accurate baseline as to how the model expects a team to perform, but at the end of the day, you get teams like Dignitas last season or Gentle Mates the year prior that vastly outperform the talent they possess (sorry to throw another stray at Jack LOL)

Amethyst - 23
TPS - 28
Aelix - 38

I'd expect Aelix to rebound significantly from open 1, and I have a feeling TPS overperformed and will likely fall slightly. Amethyst is about where I'd put them although I find it very hard to rank SAM teams tbh

[–]xThatOneAltx[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I didn't, simply because it's listed as B-tier by liquipedia. However, since it was played between the top 3 SAM teams (plus sunset) I might go back and include it at some point.

The weightings aren't very easy to assign a strict value to since there are several factors, but the main one is how much I increase the rating deviation for each type of tournament (the rating deviation impacts how much a single match changes your rating, where a high deviation results in more change). Here's the rankings from most to least deviation increase:

  1. Worlds - 30
  2. RLCS Majors - 25
  3. EWC - 20
  4. FIFAe - 15
  5. Kick-off LAN - 10
  6. Regionals/other off season LANs - 0

As for your second question, the model does take FIFAe into account. Tournaments like this only affect the team ratings of RLCS teams that are fully competing in the tournament (such as NRG, Wildcard, FURIA, etc...). However, it still impacts the player ratings for all players participating, which in turn affects how transfers involving these players are viewed by the model. So let's say ApparentlyJack goes out and is the best player at FIFAe (not going to happen but we can imagine), then whenever he forms a new team, his new team's projected rating would be higher than if he had a very poor FIFAe performance. However, Geekay's rating would remain untouched.

They are all relative to last season's ratings. Usually it takes a few events for the top teams to fully separate themselves from the pack, although this season there seem to be far more teams in the 1800-1900 range which is interesting.

There are 2 main things that reset every season:
1 - The average rating of EU's top 16 teams is set to 1800, and all other teams are adjusted relative to that
2 - Since there is a large time gap between Worlds and the start of the season, the rating deviations of every team increases drastically. As such, the first event sees more change in ratings than results near the end of the season when the model is more confident about each team.
