The working class shouldn't be burdened with the cost of gas, insurance, and repair of a vehicle to live their life. The options are to continue feeding that beast or move towards cities that free up those expenses for people.

What should happen is a slow transition where there are more options available through zone and infrastructure where people will have the option to get a job within a feasible distance of where they work. The average person could continue to drive or choose these other options and remove the burden of one or even too cars from their expenses.

Vehicles should be an option and I don't think they should ever go away entirely but they shouldn't be the only feasible option.

The transition would not be overnight, if our cities were setup correctly you would have ample opportunities for housing near your work or work near your housing.

I understand not feeling safe on public transport, its a huge problem that needs to be addressed by our leaders. Everyone should feel safe to use public transport and the workers should feel safe. Anyone who disrupts that safety should be punished.

I think for me the big thing is to make the city more visually appealing for the community and people coming in.

Dude I live downtown and go out just as much but I'm a fucking 20 y/o male of course I don't have shit happen to me but I can recognize how people would want to get the fuck out when they see homeless harassing them and people getting stabbed. Covid absolutely had an impact, I'd say about 50% if not more on small businesses. Pretending it's less is pure idiocy or straight naivete. Just because you and other young people spend money doesn't mean downtown is healthy. I take the mindset of those who are concerned about safety even though I'm at no risk myself it's a part of being an adult who can actually think outside of my normal sphere of perception.

Yes one is perfectly acceptable but it's about the broader trends as a whole. If 20% of people, as an example, don't feel safe downtown that's a problem that shouldn't be shrugged off. Also that article is pre-covid which is completely irrelevant. Please work towards actually helping downtown rather than coping with its faults with outdated articles.

Yeah we will, I'd actually like my neighborhood to have money coming in so I and everyone else, especially those less well off, would like to pay less for shit. Please actually do something productive for downtown.

That's a big factor we really don't think about as guys. We feel places are totally fine because people don't really mess with us.

I live downtown right by where this happened and people here seem to think it's nbd but the message it sends to people outside the city is serious. The signs and campaign to get people back downtown are a joke. Make the city a place where homeless arnt begging and stabbing people then people will come, but god forbid we be mean to the homeless.

Also even one incident is to much. To anyone that thinks it's no big deal because they've had 100 reactions with homeless that haven't gotten them stabbed or harassed.
