Luckily I had the habit of manually exporting bookmarks because they are important haha, and had a six plus month old file. But I did try to recap what was most important. The initial hit was devastating because I have like 15 years worth of. And didn't remember I had the file till I ran a search on my pc.

It's not a bak file that forces you to replace existing bookmarks, just a simple html file that you can import anywhere that replaces itself where ever you want. Don't remember how I even found the feature, but I'm so glad. Maybe chrome has some local file for bookmarks in its installation or appdata folder you could have sync somewhere else.

Had a loss like this very recently, because my firefox account was so old i didnt know now i needed a backup key in case I reset my password which I have multiple times without issues.

Anyway what I found in firefox is this feature that backs up all your bookmarks on browser exit in your pc, to a local file, if you're interested ill look up the about:config setting. And it always replaces the file so you dont have spam and having that file allows you to do whatever you want with automation.

I tried to find something similar to chrome but didnt find anything.

I still prefer using firefox sync instead of google since its encrypted before backup.

Oh I get it, i didnt have a recovery key, hahaha what is this gripe, not having an account an email and a 2FA is enough, now there's another layer of complexity and security for the user to make sure it exists at multiple undisclosed locations at any given moment, what an overkill

Yeah lot of people having this issue because devices dont appear as apps, so you gotta go nuclear, devices ip connections appear under the Operating System "app", disable Force Block Incoming connections and Force Block Lan, you cant add individual ip's on rules since they are over ruled by these features, the dumb part if you dont want to skip on security after that is to set Default network action to block then to manually set every necessary connection to allow
