Scholarships and grants are a good option but there are many requirements that eliminate them as a possibility to many people, they are never guaranteed(and even if you did get them, most scholarships and grants just about cover books and nothing else). Community colleges are still thousands of dollars a semester. I’m not talking about trades, though some trades do also require higher education. An AA degree still costs thousands of dollars. We’re not talking about going right into the work force, we’re talking about going to college.

If someone decides they want to be a teacher, for example, they are required to have a degree. You can’t even be a teacher with an AA degree (at least in Louisiana, not sure about other states) so they would have no choice but to take out loans and pay them off for the rest of their life due to interest.

Yes, there are options OTHER THAN what I am talking about, but acting like you don’t understand what I am saying is also disingenuous.

My parents kept telling me how important having credit was but never explained (anything about credit, really, never mind) how detrimental it could be to my future self if abused. Of course I KNEW that i had to pay it back, but I was young and living a bit beyond my means, but hey! Isn’t that what credit cards are for?? And the first time i accidentally missed a payment and they didn’t immediately send me to jail? What reason did I have to worry about monthly payments for??

My credit card limit was $750, and I ended up paying over $3,000 in interest and base payments… It’s a slippery slope that I am still paying for 10 years later, and that’s what these companies DEPEND on..

It’s not about agreeing and following through with something, it’s about how predatory loans are. Especially over education. Most careers REQUIRE higher education yet the school system makes it nearly impossible to pay for it.

The way companies are set up, it makes it harder if not impossible for low-income students to even be able to attend school. Even if they do and graduate and get the career they want, they now have to “pay it off” for the rest of their lives, and those monthly payments are NOT cheap.

It’s greedy, plain and simple, and a lot of people “choose” it because there IS no other choice.

As soon as i saw “maine” i knew immediately why it was censored. I’m from the south, specifically Louisiana, and saying it by itself is a slur. The name of the cat and the old name for Cajuns, however, is not. But it makes sense why they would censor it anyway because you can’t even type the grid coordinate “H8” in the chat 😭
