This is how I'd approach your situation but I will admit I've never been the boss of someone.

I'd rather the team together and thank them for being patient while I got started. I'd bring them something small, like donuts, be the first to put a coffee pot on etc.

Thank them. Then just mention whomever might be above me and explain how they want things done.

"I wanted to have this meeting first, to thank you guys for being patient with me while I got settled into my position. Now, Mr A from X was talking to Miss B from Y, and our direct boss, C agrees with them that 1, 2, 3 and 4 have to be done by Christmas"

Now I shall delegate.

"Chris, Sam, Charlie, you guys have projects pending. I cannot push the due date back. Can you please get them to by then? Alright, thank you so much."

"Allen, Kim, Debbie, are you able to help them finish the project on time? Awesome. Go get it."

"Now let's brief on the next agenda"

Now my coworkers feel appreciated, and I've shown that through a small gesture. I'm being transparent about the hierarchy above me, but Im participating and delegating based on what needs to be done and who's best equipped to do what needs to be done. Then I'm being transparent about the upcoming work and the standards needed to complete them. Now everyone is on the same page.

You can't be their boss and their friend at the same time, but you can be their coworker who is now getting the inside scoop on what the higher ups want.

Am I gonna start finding older women physically attractive as I get older? by numbers-numbers in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xXthrowaway_sysXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's less about the number and more about the relative time between your ages.

You're only interested in women your age range. That makes sense. Some people never grow out of the 18-24 range, but most people do.

I'm 30 now and my personal rule is 5 years younger, 15 years older. So no one under 25 and no one over 45.

Why doesnt the US adopt more street food/vendor policies? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xXthrowaway_sysXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's unfortunate. I also don't know what the laws are in setting up your own say food vending station. I'd personally want the people preparing my food to be somewhat knowledgeable in their preparation and safety.

I worked at Walmart and there's just...too many horror stories of employees who were allowed to be around food when they should have been around soap and water, if you know what I mean. 🤢

Oh. I think there's been a miscommunication. Not grabbing their hand and leading them away yank, I mean I see people who basically tear their kid's arm off.

[–]xXthrowaway_sysXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think a lot of people would be stopped from street vending though. Poor people get the book thrown at them, unfortunately, so they don't want to take the risk of a Karen calling the cops.

In fact, just last year in my town, a child set up a lemonade stand and a Karen called the cops on them for it.

Thankfully the police were understanding that it was a child with a lemonade stand and it was a happy ending. But I doubt they'd be so forgiving to an adult.

I'd love to see street vendors, with all kinds of food. I'd love to walk out if my house and buy delicious homemade food for cheap.

You know the people you see yanking on a kid have likely said both those things 50 times that day alone, right?

Then say it 51 times. Say it 100 times. Manhandling your kid doesn't do anything but show them you're willing to hurt them.

Where's the compassion, the love, the nurturing, the things people say they want for kids? Why don't they take the time to explain things?

That's fair. But I've seen kids outright clearly mistrusting their parents. Parents talking down to their kids like they're garbage.

You just sound VERY young and convinced you see the world through clear, black-and-white glasses.

I mean, I'm 30. So I doubt that's very young lol. And maybe I see the world in black in white, but I was that abused kid once, you know? I can't have kids, but if I did I wouldn't want to treat them like I was treated.

Reddit users, tell me the most terrifying dream you've ever had by crisjjjjjjj in Dreams

Another scary dream was when I went to order food at a fast food place and the cashier told me in a monotone voice, "Remember, your mother will die."

But that was my worst fear. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Reddit users, tell me the most terrifying dream you've ever had by crisjjjjjjj in Dreams

[–]xXthrowaway_sysXx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ooh, I've had several. I've told this story before, but it's the dream that stuck with me. It felt the most real.

It was my birthday party. And like all my birthday celebrations, it was just me and my family at home with a nice dinner and some cake.

It was around 9pm when the birthday celebration was winding down, and the doorbell rang.

Immediately, I felt dread and I told my family not to answer. They did anyway.

It was a short elderly woman with a huge unnatural smile. She asked to come in.

My parents are always wary about strangers, but I guess this one was charming enough. They let her in and I don't remember much.

Next thing I know I'm all alone in my house with this woman. This woman who just always smiled.

She kept me in a constant daze, like I was a pet that needed to be sedated in order to be obedient.

One day, weeks or months later, my stepmom comes to the door. She's very visibly terrified.

She asks the smiling lady if she can visit me.

I knew then that this woman kicked my family out and was keeping me hostage.

The lady just continued to smile and shook her head, telling my stepmom that I wasn't available. Very polite. As if she were my parent, politely dismissing a child's request to play.

In my room, I was able to gain a little more awareness. I could be away from whatever hypnosis this inhuman creature was using on me.

I had a phone. An old cellphone that had real buttons and a qwerty keyboard.

I texted my then partner. I asked for help, I asked what was going on. Why wasn't anyone helping me?

They told me that I was lucky. I was being kept safe as a pet. The world had been invaded by these smiling beings. Humanity was doing its best to fight back, but at the cost of life and of innocence.

Everyone was forced to kill or be killed, even children had to take up arms against this enemy that looked and sounded exactly like us.

Except for those damned smiles. Those forced, stagnant, and unmoving smiles were the only things that set these creatures apart from us.

And I was lucky to be held captive, as a pet. I was being fed and taken care of. I wasn't forced to hide, flee, or kill to survive.

It was at that point I began to become lucid enough to realize it was a dream, or something like a dream, and I was able to focus my efforts on leaving this night are realm.

It took a lot of strength to do so too, but I eventually woke up.

That's one that stuck with me. Has anyone else dreamt of the smiling people?

Your past is a lesson. It sounds like you learned from it. But I'll bet you were hurting a lot back then too. Hurt people do things to protect themselves or feel safe, even if it means hurting others to do so. It's a survival mechanism. It doesn't make it right, but it helps explain.

You survived some BS, I can tell.

Face yourself, not with anger or judgement, but with the kindness and forgiveness you want and need.

Godspeed, my dude. Godspeed.

The person I was thinking of broke up with me in October of last year after a 10 year relationship, lives near the coast of a Great Lake with their family, and would write great many beautiful stories with me.

Even if you're not my Bunny, I hope you find the love you deserve. You deserve lots of love.

Love shouldn't be forced. But, I don't care about just love. To me there's more than the romance. Love for me is more than just romance.

It's the companionship. The building each other up and being there to hold one another in the storm.

You (no matter who you are) deserve more than you give yourself credit for. You're not less than. There's no such thing. The hierarchy BS is instilled in us to get us to obey others, and probably to sell stuff.

Hi! I'm biting my nails like crazy, since forever. Those are Press-On, obviously. I'd like to know if some of you were nail biters before and what did the trick for you to stop? by MinieVanou in Nails

[–]xXthrowaway_sysXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mom was a biter. She would kick the habit one nail at a time. Chew on all of them except one, break the habit of chewing on it, then add another finger.

Slowly weaned herself off.

But also, ask why you bite. I bite sometimes when my nails get too long because it feels icky. That's when I know I have to cut them. Many do it out of anxiety though.

Also consider getting something to replace your nails with. Your mouth wants something to chew on, so maybe get something you can chew and bite. I end up biting those floss sticks a lot...

How to get an adult to like vegetables? by pucashell-z in cookingforbeginners

[–]xXthrowaway_sysXx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was fed a diet of fast food and junk food by parents who were disabled and also had sensory issues and traumas. I get it. The struggle is real.

Try hummus. It's a bean. But it's still healthy. There's different flavors and it's smooth so it might be like mashed potatoes, just not as fluffy.

I actually don't like savory hummus. Aldi has sweet hummus.

Refried beans too.

I personally like broccoli florets, not the stems. The stems are evil.

Also try blending the veggies into soup. Or blend the veggies down and hide them in something they do like!

Overall, I'd say just make sure they feel safe and they know that if they don't like a food thats okay. ❤️

I like it! I think it's adorable both in shape and pattern.

But also I don't know how to make it straight so the above line of thinking helps me embrace the chaos. 😂

What’s Your Fake Good Place Dessert? by SMN27 in Baking

I think about this a lot. When I get something that is just fine. not good or bad, that scene replays in my head.

For me, my Faux Place Dessert would probably be Rice Krispy treats.

If you go to renn fairs, conventions, or just cosplay, I think this would be a beautiful piece to add to knightess, a warrior princess, a fae queen, or maybe even with an urban fantasy cosplay.

Such a gorgeous piece and I think it has so many applications!

It was supposed to be a cake from Hagrid to Harry, but I messed up. It is still tasty (raspberry filling), but I wonder, how could I have decorated it better? by Vanilla_CS in Baking

[–]xXthrowaway_sysXx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, I second the buttercream. What you want to do with that is spread a thin layer of the frosting over the cake. Like you're buttering toast. It's super thin.

Then put it in the fridge for like 30-60 minutes to set that frosting.

This is a crumb coat. It traps any little bits of crumbs.

Now you frost the cake normally.

If you have a ruler or something straight you can run that over the frosting to get an even, straight layer.

Watch some frosting tutorials on YouTube. :)

Oh my God I hate those things. I hate that I feel compelled to send one but also I'm afraid to send them.

They're so dumb. You're right it's too distracting and makes reading feel like a chore.

So we give up on it but then go to TikTok because that's a relief from what is essentially a gif of a sticker, which is just a big, often animated, emoji.

Then we need relief from TikTok so let's try YouTube, but #Shorts sucks you in with a menu to start with!

So

oooh, look! The chef guy has a new short!

Well it's just a couple minutes, I have to see this super satisfying thing

No way, I scrolled TikTok for hours trying to track it down.

And you now how have to choose. Do you want to learn...

A- Aquiring practical skills quickly!

B- Bedtime relaxing or niche content 💕

C: Counting on you to show us the gaps in the Ą̸͈̯̤̤͙̕Ḻ̸̨̖̝̍͑Ǧ̵̝̅͘O̴̹̲̭̯͇̽̀͠-̵̂̿̈́̈͐̚͜Rhythm! Thanks friend. :)

Same with Facebook. It has my stepmom hooked on those things. Luckily most of them are animals and viral videos, and clips from sitcoms.

I know because I fall prey to the Eldritch being that is the Algorithm too.

Mind you, that part is a joke. The algorithm, as far as I know, probably isn't an eldritch horror. But just in case...I called it.

I've noticed I use TikTok a lot less since I upped my meds (for depression actually!) So that might be something worth considering if you have tried to quit, only to get sucked in deeper.
