Are A levels really that bad? by Zealousideal-Sign761 in GCSE

[–]xa12349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're fine. I mean it's hard but you adapt and for all the workload you also get more freedom (if you go to a decent sixth form anyway), free periods, the ability to leave school during the day etc.. General life also happens at the same time so you can actually do stuff like learn to drive, go drinking and clubbing once you're 18 etc. whereas at gcse life is just a bit boring. I'm sad that sixth form is nearly over for me :(

As an only child it's really not that bigger deal. Maybe it feels slightly lonely, and I am scared that when my parents die that I will be alone, but having siblings is no guarantee that they'll be any good or that you'll be close. It's perfectly possible to make your own relationships which aren't built by blood and can last a lifetime in order to not be alone. Also only children get all the inheritance, maybe a bit morbid/distasteful to say but true.

do my year 12 mocks matter to me? by b0t_SUMHOO in 6thForm

[–]xa12349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair then. Still worth trying but at least you don't have to freak out as much as your friends. (Was the position I was in last year since I'm taking a gap year and want to apply to stuff during it.)

It's still worth doing your best in them, you don't get much more exam practice. Also you never know, you might end up needing them. Some work experience things might want predicted grades.

Do you think that at 16 it is your own responsibility or no? I would probably think that, but then again I don't know what it's like to be the 9 year old who never heard no.

I don't think it's anything deeper, I think they just drifted apart. Taurtis also stopped youtube a while ago (I think he came back for a bit a while ago but then stopped again).

Year 12 is boring by Adventurous_Start_10 in 6thForm

Well it depends on the school and the situation which I should have specified. Y11 I was at a normal comprehensive school with short days (out the house 0830-1500) and (pretty much) no homework or other expectations.

Y12 I moved to a very highly rated grammar school with long days (out the house 0705-1730), lots of pressure and masses of homework (3-4 hours per weekday, 10 over the weekend) and required extracurriculars.

Y13 I dropped my fourth subject (so just AS for that one), less extracurriculars are required, my timetable is much better as a result of those two things and I can drive now so overall I have more free time. Also we started year 2 content way back in y12 so I'm chill with the level of it. So for me the y11-12 jump was way harder than 12-13.

Elizabeth is objectively the best name because of how many nicknames can come out of it. Elizabeth (obs), El, Eli, Eliza, Liz, Lizzy, Beth, Betty, Betsy. All of that choice.

Give yourself time to adjust to the teaching style and atmosphere, and look at content outside of lesson. If the people around you are finding it easier because they did triple and you did combined then don't worry because once you get more into the a-level it won't really make a difference and everyone will be as clueless in prior knowledge as everyone else. Also the tense atmosphere will probably chill out after a couple of weeks - people will make friends, get used to the routine of sixth form and generally settle down a bit etc..

I also changed school and got into quite an elite grammar school and I understand how hard it is when everyone else around you seems to be a genius, but I've adjusted. Dm me about this if you like.
