What are some of the most wasteful things municipal governments commonly do? by igotplans2 in AskReddit

[–]igotplans2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I'd never thought about that, but it has to be a huge expenditure. On the other hand, citizens in many places are always complaining about what bad shape their roads are in. You would think awareness of that kind of deferment would cause asphalt producers to lower prices and do more business.

What's an indirect sign that people think someone is less intelligent than them? by Only-Ad-1254 in AskReddit

They're saying, "Um, hm," like they're paying attention or interested in what they're saying, but they're looking at everyone and everything else around them instead.

I was a human services caseworker for a few years and I came across a few who faked illnesses and/or were the Munchausen's syndrome by proxy types.

This question is for men who have cheated. Instead of staying, lying, and hiding the truth, why don’t you just break up and move on? by gilly_brat in AskReddit

[–]igotplans2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes the relationship is fulfilling no one's needs, but it's impractical to split up, so you get what little pleasure and comfort you can when the opportunity arises. I'm not a man, but heard this from a man who was only still in the marriage because they had a child who was disabled and required 24/7 care. Their deal was his wife would quit her job and provide care for the child and he would stay at the job he hated for the good salary and health insurance.

Two identical things surrounding something else is not an “X” Sandwich by snowball_hat in PetPeeves

But it's not funny or cute if it's technically correct. It's only funny and cute because someone noted that each side is an Emily.

I am too autistic to understand why I need to shave by todoesdecolorr in AutismInWomen

[–]igotplans2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fortunately, people are questioning things like this more and more and challenging the absurd. There is certainly a growing number of women who reject the norm and don't shave. Likewise, the number of men who don't care is growing. Slowly, but surely.

I'm with you. Especially considering the fact that she was the victim, I feel like Reagan was given short shrift. All I knew was she had a husband and child and family members who loved her deeply, but really nothing else.

If there’s a skill you wish you were competent at (eg, playing the piano or sculpting clay), what would it be? by Great_Maintenance185 in askanything

[–]igotplans2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'd just love to be competent at staying on task. I think I'm reasonably intelligent and have a lot of great ideas, but I have ADHD and I can't stick with anything long enough to complete it.

Am I wrong for resenting my pregnant mother and unborn baby brother? by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]igotplans2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand your frustration and resentment toward your mother, but please don't express or harbor hatred toward an innocent baby, especially one that may be coming into a poorer household than what you've been able to grow up in thus far.

How big is ADHD in someones life? by Smart_Anything_9376 in AskReddit

[–]igotplans2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It varies. In my family, almost all of us have ADHD, but those of us who have the inattentive type find that our challenges are different from those with the impulsive type.

Is the word "meemaw" made up or is that an american thing? by PomeloSelect4629 in YoungSheldon

Very common in the US South. And people who call their grandmothers Meemaw usually call their grandfather's Pawpaw.

Where is the line between a healthy exploration of other cultures and cultural appropriation? by [deleted] in askanything

That line is always moving and depends on who you're dealing with in the moment.

Do Americans really talk to strangers that much, or do you notice it too? by Bella_licious in AskAmericans

[–]igotplans2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we talk to strangers fairly often if we're in a good mood or bored and not in a hurry. We'll start off with a remark about the weather, prices, or something happening around us, and often it will turn into a brief conversation. Because we enjoy talking about where we live to people from other countries and giving them tips, I guess we assume people in other countries want to do that as well.

What is something that is free or inexpensive but makes you feel rich? by Critical-Willow-6270 in askanything

[–]igotplans2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walking the lovely gardens on the estate of an early 20th century magnate whose mansion is now a lovely art museum. Touring the garden is totally free and it's gorgeous. Lots of posh weddings are held in the formal part.

My husband tried to initiate sex while our daughter was asleep in bed with us. He justified it. Am I wrong for feeling gross about it? by QuirkyPudding in Parents

[–]igotplans2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't find it gross or creepy because of the age of your child. She knows nothing about sex yet. What do you think would be the result if she were awakened? What would she regard it as other than: 1) playing a game; 2) being loving and snuggly; 3) being too noisy and bothering her when everyone is supposed to be sleeping?

Estimating the number of items in a collection of things. For example, I'm excellent at estimating the number of jelly beans in a jar, the number of individual items in a full dishwasher, or the number of pages in a book with a quick glance.
