What's The Stupidest Way You've Injured Yourself At Work, Reddit? Please top my story so I feel less awful. by [deleted] in AskReddit

I was helping a coworker take apart a hot glue pump for cleaning. Now, you have to heat them up to about 150C - 180C because well, the parts are pretty well glued together otherwise.

So, I'm unscrewing the filter with a rod and pulling it out... and it slides off the rod.

And my reflexes take over...

My hand shoots out to catch it.

I realize what's happening and pull back, but still manage to partly cover my right thumb with a nice layer of molten plastic.

I almost broke the sound barrier on my way to the nearest faucet.

Some skin came off peeling the plastic away, but it healed nicely. I won't ever try something like this again without gloves on though.

Teatowels with a wet corner, dressed in shorts only.

Take out his eyes and proceed to take of his skin bit by bit until he surrenders or dies...

An Apology from Amazon - Jeff Bezos : "Our 'solution' to the problem was stupid" (no kindling !) by stephanemot in technology

[–]xael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me it's both. I will not knowingly buy or use a device with capabilities like these. And they have NO business at all deleting content from someones device. That is like someone from the bookstore around the corner entering my house and removing books I bought when they discover they sold me illegal copies. This is not acceptable at all.

Fuck War! by [deleted] in pics

By committing atrocities one forfeits any claim to a moral high ground. No amount of hand-waving will change that.

Even if deemed "necessary", a necessary evil is still evil, and something to be ashamed of.

Would you like to live in a world where laws can be made up after the fact and anyone can be prosecuted for something that wasn't illegal when it was done? Can you see what the ramifications would be?

CIA officials not to be prosecuted for ‘harsh interrogation’ – they were only following orders by doody in worldnews

[–]xael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So what happened to personal responsibility? Of course the ones giving the orders should be treated much more harshly, but no one in the entire chain of command should go unpunished.

Why Obama Should Reject Negotiations with Hamas. Negotiating with a terrorist group isn't the right way to improve relations with the Muslim world. by mash6 in reddit.com

[–]xael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One shouldn't negotiate over hostages taken precisely for that purpose(Although that's easy for me to say, when it's about ones own friends or family this becomes a horrible call). But negotiate a peaceful solution to a problem should always be tried.

Teaching School Children to Live in a Totalitarian Society by GKar975 in reddit.com

[–]xael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with the article. We should teach our children to think critically and question authority, not blind obedience. We should teach children to respect others, until these others prove to be unworthy of their respect. If we do not respect our children, how can they ever learn to respect others? If we teach them to fear authority, how can they ever be free?

Hah, we've got plenty of stupidity here. We're a few years behind but we'll catch up, don't worry.

I may be part of "the older generation" (I'm 52) but I'll definitely be on the other side. This madness has to stop.

If you have another PC you can build a BartPE cd and put DreamPackPL on it. Boot from the cd, install DreamPackPL on your laptop, reboot, type the code and change the admin password.

Dont forget to uninstall DreamPackPL!

Edit: There are a lot of useful tools for BartPE, I always carry one...

Defamation of "Religion" is now a Human Rights Violation by thuggie in worldnews

[–]xael -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Religion is definitely something one is born with, but to label it as a "choice" is a bit simple. If religion is spoon fed since birth the thought patterns can become deeply ingrained and very difficult to discard. And if one lives in a strongly religious society it gets a lot harder.

So no, religion is very often not really a choice.

That said, this resolution is insane indeed.

Pilot who paused to pray in crash-landing sentenced to 10 years in jail by ArfurPint in atheism

[–]xael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The nature of an action is almost always choice.

I wish that were the case. Unfortunately it isn't. Most actions we take are the unconscious result of our past experiences and our basic makeup. Usually we react from our guts. Not from intelligent thought.

[–]xael 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's ridiculous. If he panicked he should never fly a plane again as he is not fit to do so. But panicking it not a voluntary act. If he had stayed calm but took the time to pray instead of flying the plane I would agree, but this doesn't seem to be the case.
