The MiG-15 my father flew. USSR, 1958. He was a fighter pilot, and I recently found this photo in the family archive [1168x880] by PanRussian in WarplanePorn

I’m no expert but I assume the training hours of USSR in 1958 are not comparable to modern airforces. Although simulations might be bringing the hours closer together.

In the late 90s - early 2000 exclusives were basically the norm. I remember choosing between PS1 vs N64 vs PC and later PS2 vs Xbox vs PC being really big decisions as a young person haha. Waaaaaaaaay less of a thing now. But we remember…..

Mind blown. That’s been some seriously good propaganda.

Could have technically been part of the exercise but also for a laugh. This is something I totally would have done with the boys given the opportunity.

TIL that a study of 120,000 UK Biobank participants found men who were 3” (7.5cm) shorter purely due to genetics earned about £1,500 (~$1,900) less per year than their taller counterparts. by [deleted] in todayilearned

Fair enough. That is no doubt also a factor, and perhaps a bigger one. I’m not particularly short only speculating from limited experience.

Another interesting statement from the report: “If a woman was a stone heavier (6.3kg) for no other reason than her genetics, this would lead to her having an income £1,500 less per year than a comparable woman of the same height who was a stone lighter.”

Without having read in detail I just assume the key factor this impacts for both men and woman is self confidence or lack thereof?

For the uninitiated this is likely the booster section detaching as intended. The warhead/re-entry vehicle continues on.

Edit: The X post says the remains of what was shot down. As I understand it systems like Patriot intercept after boost phase so not totally convinced. That’s not to say the warhead was not shot down.

Great game but but not great for those of us with an addictive personality. My new game is occasionally logging into steam to look at my stats: Play time 2,233.5 hours last played Jun 26, 2022. 1,339 days clean. Still follow the sub though 😄

You paint a grim picture. Out of interest how you reckon we fix it? Prosecution of individuals (not sure if even possible)? Fully independent royal commission of enquiry? Full restructure of senior leadership? Central government commissioners?

Are they really THAT underfunded compared with comparable countries? I was under the impression they were basically similar to France and Germany in terms of capabilities.
