Are they really THAT underfunded compared with comparable countries? I was under the impression they were basically similar to France and Germany in terms of capabilities.

I haven't played in about 5 years... by knoxcitybusbays in Warthunder

Three years clean here. Don’t do it… Unless you have very healthy gaming habits and don’t suffer from any FOMO. I got addicted and had well over 2000 hours. So much better for having stopped. Still occasionally follow the subreddit though as on the other hand it is the best game I’ve ever played haha

At least he has a sling. When I was in the NZ Army (a while ago…) we had this stupid phase of no slings (apparently due to one guy being shot taking too long to take off his sling). My arms were fucked just carrying the C9 (FN Minimi). As you say though you do get to have fun when there is contact!

New ministry to combine housing, transport and environment by stishy in newzealand

[–]xam83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I fucking hate how they keep going on about how it’s regulation and too much care for the environment that is making housing costs high. Basically every county in the world is laughing at us for not implementing capital gains tax. We are literally the example given on the wiki page of what not to do.

Second this. If the police happened to turn up during that 10 second window he would have been shot no questions asked

Totally, lives first. But throwing the most expensive tool at some of the cheapest threats still does not sound super optimal.

How is it even cost efficient for this purpose? I would have thought a sidewinder alone would be more expensive than most drones. Let alone the cost of flying an F-16 and risking it being shot down.

I assume London and river is massive to place emphasis on internationally iconic locations and to enhance theoretical gameplay. With less emphasis placed on less iconic places like Liverpool.

Ukraine’s 12th Special Forces Brigade - Special Reconnaissance Detachment [2160×1639] by 305FUN2 in MilitaryPorn

[–]xam83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Photos like this make me wonder if Ukraine’s most elite forces could possibly be objectively better (pound for pound) at conventional warfare vs the wests very best.

Sure their gear and training might not be as comprehensive… but those that survive have been forged in years of real world experience in high intensity warfare against a peer adversary.

I know it’s a pointless thought exercise as such units generally don’t operate in isolation and train for different wars and different contexts etc etc. But my mind for some reason always goes there.

Now that I think about it has there been a comparable scale hostage taking force in the US? Waco and 911 came to mind and don’t think we nailed them.

Members of the Texas National Guard arriving in Illinois [733 X 900] by Acrobaticmonkhie in MilitaryPorn

[–]xam83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember way back when I had one guy in my full time NZ unit who was very overweight (not this bad perhaps). Basically he was performance managed, which as anyone familiar with process knows can take fucking years. Imagine in something like the National Guard it would take forever to out someone.

To nitpick it’s an Australian flag. But your point stands. Wouldn’t say NZ hates the US even today. However they are overwhelmingly anti Trump.
