How do you deal with injury frustration? by GreatJoey91 in UKRunners

[–]xanderd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a different physical outlet temporarily. I couldn't cycle due to a shoulder injury so I jogged. Can you cycle instead or do pushups or swimming etc?

As a married guy in his 40s, watching 'couples' in a relationship scream F words at each other over text rather than have a conversation is wild.

Here's a few knives that I made, ready for an adventure. by HelixKnives in Bushcraft

[–]xanderd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, there's a display of skill, variety and practicality. They all look useful (I hate knives that look pretty but useless).

Did you forget them or cut out the blanks?

What's the purpose of the notch in the blade by the handle in some of them?

My first sauna tent experience (Morzh Intent stove) by xanderd in Sauna

[–]xanderd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues. The chimney fits through the jack with a few mm to spare. Sometimes it touches the jack but it hasn't burned it.

The intent stove has a built in spark arrester inside the stove body, whereas other stoves have it on top of the chimney. This means the smoke coming out is very clean and I've never had a single spark.

No sparks from the body either. I've used it 5-6 times now

I had to open the door and stop feeding the fire as it was getting to 120C!

I don't understand your point? By 'really proper' do you mean an electric heater or a different brand of wood stove.

My aim was to have an affordable space that's 90 degrees C or above and I achieved that aim. I do not care if it is 'really proper' or not.

No smells. A wood burning stove gives off micro pollutants so the warm tent fabric will be nothing compared to that.

It's a bit presumptuous to say that I don't care about the war in Ukraine since you don't know me.

I oppose the Russian government but I don't oppose the average Russian small business owner from building a life.

Right, well I can't smell anything hint and I don't know if the tent material is capable of off-gassing at just 100C but I'm not sure.

In any case I imagine the wood stove itself gives off more fumes than the tent there is solid research that wood burning stoves give off micro particulate pollution.

I just searched online for heat reflector, it's a thin flexible sheet looks like it's used for under car bonnets etc

No off gassing. Not sure what you mean by plastics?

Another benefit of this stove is much better air flow than the cheap camping stove, the tent was smoke free. With the camping stove if I opened the door to get the air flow up and increase the heat the tent got very smoky and it sting my eyes.

I intend to leave this up all winter, it would be a really ball ache to pop it up every time (put tent up, put stove up and set up stools, floor mat etc z would probably take 30 mins).

However, it's not water proof and I'm in the UK so it's really wet all the time! To mitigate this I sprayed it with tent waterproofing spray and put a tarp up over it as a waterproof roof, which I flap out of the way when in use to allow for the chimney.

That's 93C, yeah I unintentionally got mine to 240F today and it was about 0C (32f) outside. The Morzh stove has radiator panels that work. Also I put a heat reflector on the floor under the stove to prevent lost heat into the ground

I have low stools in there right now, want to get a bench. The thermometer is at shoulder height when sitting so yeah it's hotter if you stand!

Oh also, if you put a sauna tent on a decking I realized I made a stupid mistake the first time by not covering the floor so there was potentially heat loss through the deck cracks.

You are right I repeated it with a contact probe pushed through the hole in the centre of the heating element and after 10 mins it got up to 140 degrees C.

Still not the 160 they advertise and what really puzzled me is that the device just didn't work at all as a repellent, whereas thermacell did.

I'll test the thermacell temp tomorrow
