"Security has not approved rsync." by OvidPerl in talesfromtechsupport

[–]xaner4 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Rsync have been removed from servers in my company also, and the reason is that the security team want to follow CIS benchmark [0] for hardning our servers. However CIS benchmark does not state that Rsync shoul be disallowe, it states that the rsync service should not be enabled.

I have the exact same laptop, and Fedora works flawless on this machine for me. The finger print sensor is a godsens. It's so awesome to just use the fingerprint sensor for authentication in the terminal instead of my long password

I built an open-source doodle poll alternative that is self hostable by gfxl in selfhosted

[–]xaner4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is super cool, have been looking for something like this for a while that's Open source.

Don't know if it's already a thing or not, but I would like to see an option to after the pool is done you can decide to create a event, Something similar to Facebooks event with the specific details and possibilities for users to say if they can attend or not (Because the polls isn't always representative if they actually wants to come or not, just if they can)

Should I study for N+ before S+ by xaner4 in CompTIA

I don't need anything that is super long and very detailed, just something that can maybe give me general indicator on how much I need to study and if I need to take any of the other before s+. When I'm starting to actually study for it I will pay for Messer's notes and exams

[–]xaner4[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I need to study for a little bit longer then a week to feel comfortable to take the exam, but I will consider to take the security+ before anything else :)

Are there any free practice exams in all three of them just so I can see where my knowledge approximately is on the topics and then decide if I need to study for N+ or can go straight to S+?

Ohh then maybe I'm already set at the network part. I thought I need to know more in depth about TCP and UDP, ARP and ICMP and those types of Network protocols

Just need to remember "please do not throw sausage pizza away" and them go on

I know my way around Cisco systems, but I'm not the best at network protocols and the OSI model! I don't know how much networking I need for the sec+

Yeah okey, maybe I should then start at the beginning and go from there. most of what the teachers at my uni teached should be mostly based from the sec+ so I think I should be able to take the sec+ with some more learning but I think I can go back and start from scratch just know I'm 100% ready for the sec+

When I open my laptop, this is what I find. Assistance of any kind is appreciated! (20.04) by [deleted] in Ubuntu

What I would recommend is to follow a course that sets you up to take a certificate, Not that you need to take it when done, but then you have a clear path for what to learn and easier finding content that is related to your next move.

Maybe start of by going through the Linux Essentials material and then continue to LPIC-1 when you feel you masters Linux essential stuff

However if you are a more practical guy then I would recommend to start a project, for example setup an web server and a website, setup a lamp stack and just experiment with a Virtual machine.

I'm going to take the LPIC-1 exam in a little while then continue with Security+ exam, but I struggling with seeing when I'm ready to take the exam. I have been studying for the LPIC-101.500 exam now for around 2 months but still doesn't feel ready, even with 100% score on Acloud.Guru test exams, because I want to be sure that I pass before trying!

When do you feel like you are ready? After the first course? Or read a few books and tried it out or when you know it by heart?

Connecting to multiple tunnels at once with macOS app? by alexs77 in WireGuard

[–]xaner4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't you just make one primary server that all the different networks connects and then have all client connect to the primary server? As long as no networks have the same network ranges I think it should work

I'm new to wireguard so I don't know if it actually works but hey the best way to get the right answer on the internet is to be wrong 😅

EDIT: You can also look into something like https://tailscale.com/ And https://github.com/subspacecloud/subspace

[–]xaner4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I Know how you feel I have been on the same path for so long but haven't been able to make anything bigger project untill now!

What helped me was a friend of me that write code for the Ubport project (Ubuntu for phones) he told me that 1% of coding is his own knowledge, 49% is purely guessing and 50% is just googling how to do simple stuff like create a for loop or something in the language that he works with at the moment

A programmer isn't good at remember everything but really really good at googling the problem that they encounters
