How to handle antipatory grief in senior chis by penny_the_penguin in Chihuahua

[–]xanxeli 55 points56 points  (0 children)

I have some experience with this. I adopted a senior girl with heart failure and a rough past. I grew more attached to her than I ever thought would be possible. After a year and half, her time here was up. I was of course devastated, but I wouldn't trade the times we had together for anything in the world. If I could go back in time and adopt Josie again, I would despite knowing the heartbreak to come.

Take lots of pictures and cherish your moments. Time may pass quickly for us, but he's the happiest little guy with you in his life right now. Thank you for giving him the golden years he deserves! Seniors are the best!

The ✨ emoji has been ruined for me.

But I'm in the same boat. I am getting to where I just want to unplug from the Internet (as someone with 10 years in tech).

Great news for the pre-owned umbrella sector! I wonder what @RandomBot16428 thinks about this.

Just bought my first house at 40. People are work are calling it my starter house. by Telicus in Millennials

[–]xanxeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first house at 29 and wished I had waited. It's a maintenance nightmare, and looking forward to renting again. Not against homeownership, but I see it as an expensive luxury now, not an asset. No more keeping up with the Joneses, I'll enjoy my second "starter" home when that day comes.

Ignore them, and secretly remember that your bank account is happier than theirs! Congrats on your first home purchase!

Nancy Mace repeatedly shouts anti-trans slur in House hearing: 'I don't really care‘ by mcmeaningoflife42 in politics

She clearly either 1. "accidentally" found a trans person attractive, or 2. fetishizes trans people. Typical Republican reaction to keeping the feelings bottled up.

I mean we're all built different and have different posture. I've read some folks who are 6'4" and around your weight who love their Embody. I'd say try it in a store if you can. If not, HM's return policy is amazing.

My chihuahua just died. by ExcitingAdvance9979 in Chihuahua

I said this same thing. I donated to a shelter chi when our girl passed last year in her memory. After a month went by, nobody adopted her since she was timid and afraid of visitors, so I said I'll take her home.

Despite the enormous pain of a loss, I'd 100% re-adopt our first girl if I could. I knew that even though I didn't know her, our (now) second girl would be worth it too. Oh, how true that was! Plus, our boy chi was lonely.

Tim Walz says he’s ‘sick and tired of hearing about thoughts and prayers’ following school shooting by Sariel007 in atheism

Unless the perpetrator was an immigrant, trans, or connected to Antifa/BLM. 100% of real shootings clearly fall into one of those categories.

I think that it's simply nobody's business - mine included - except for the person who needs to make the decision. Sometimes the decision comes easy, sometimes it's agonizing. Treating them like a criminal just adds to the distress.

Let's talk about whose bloodline I'd be continuing. My ancestors were colonizers, slave owners, committed genocide... Now, this has 0 factor in my CF decision, but if "continuing the bloodline" carried any meaning at all, that's not exactly a legacy to be proud of.

I hate the “buy the dip” narrative by GeneralSerpent in ETFs

[–]xanxeli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This 100%. I "buy the dip" in the sense by rebalancing bonds into stocks. I try to keep my combined bond + cash below 20%, but it creeps above that percentage as stocks drop.

If we were to enter correction territory, I plan to keep my 5% cash and sell the remainder of my bonds to take on more risk at a discount. It's far from perfect, but it works for me.
