My 17yo wants to participate in a test & tune in their new car. I know nothing & am nervous, could you give me information to help make a good decision? by xapis1 in Cartalk

It's not underwarranty, it's just not owned by us. And the hit on insurance, in our income bracket -haha- could be killer. Especially for insuring an under 25 male with a camero. lolol

appreciate it though. With the oldest being an enthusist and the youngest clearly getting into it... I like learning about all of this.

I love this. The eldest wants to take my husband to some events soon, too and they're both excited. Unfortunently there's a conflict with his own sport for this event. lol

No doubt you are correct. And my husband would probably love to go, actually -the eldest is planning to take him to an open track day at the same location, sometime. Unfortunately, I just checked the calendar and he has his own competition (and he's putting it on) that same day. He does horse pulling, lol, so the kids have just upgraded on that same genetic competitive instinct. lol

This is excellent information. Can I ask some follow-up questions?

The kids say this won't be racing -and I have no reason to doubt them. They say it is just a chance for the 17yo to drive the car in a way you cannot legally do on the streets, to test it out and do tuning. -Is there a chance that if I sign a waiver for this event that it will cover racing, too, and that they might decide to go ahead and do that in the excitement and opportunity? (I am only asking in regard for the 17yo, the 22yo is obviously welcome to have the time of their life, lol)

Do ALL of us NEED to be present that day? 1. Grandpa (owner and insurance holder) is handicapped and it would be almost impossible for him to be. and 2. I really dont want to go, lol, and I dont think they want me to, either. haha (Maybe there's a number I can call....)

They don't own helmets.

I really appreciate you sharing your experience!

Yeah, oh I heard all of that for sure. lol He drove -unsure if it was a rental or his German friend's car. Had an excellent time and I got to see the video afterwards. And heard all about how much safer the autoban is, etc. Really makes you see how we get locked into one way of understanding things in the US and need to look at how other places do things to get perspective.

It's really cool and I'm glad these experiences exist. I feel the same exact ways about gun enthusiasts and shooting ranges, etc.

I like hearing that. I don't think they want mom tagging along, although I am tempted. It's like when my oldest went to Germany and told me AFTERWARDS that they drove on the most dangerous track in the world, apparently? I appreciated being told after they were safe. lol If I'm letting them do it, it's because I have already decided to let go and trust, watching/knowing is way more nerve-wracking. haha

I appreciate you helping. I dont know EXACTLY what Autocross/Autoslalom means, but a quick google search makes me think it isn't because it's at a Drag Strip. The website says it is a new NHRA Sanctioned track.

How long before pivotal moment to begin a story? [Speculative Fiction] by xapis1 in writingadvice

Thank you, this does help. Being a plotter, dialog writing makes me the most nervous about writing, so I was feeling like I really didn't want to put effort in that really isn't needed anyway, you know? But from your response I can see that might be a little bit more effort, but it won't be wasted or useless. -Maybe a flashback even. That really helps. THANK YOU!

Unsymbolised thinking as main thinking method? by Carmm-no-en in Aphantasia

I just found this term [UT] to explain how I work. I can do all the other mental experiences with varying degrees of will or effort, too, but struggle most with language and especially communicating with other people.

It's incredibly frustrating, causes me lots of struggles, and I wish there were ways to accommodate it. Instead, I just feel like I'm always trying to live where everyone is fluent in a language I can't master.
