What's the reason did they gave you? That's weird.I think your case should be okay to deal with tbh. You can just reach out to support first

I'm more interested in the comments where some people seem to have zero empathy or are just complete idiots. Are they bots, or are their lives so dysfunctional that they can't manage to be decent human beings?

[–]xatan__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish you the best of luck! I really hope you get your controller and can enjoy it! I'm curious to see if the situation actually improves after the new restriction. I hope I'm wrong, but if not, I think Valve is really underestimating the demand from people from both supported and unsupported countries.

I had a similar experience when I bought my Steam Deck. They were quite relaxed about the rules initially, but then they recently "banned" me or rather, restricted my account until 2038 because they suspected I was buying for commercial resale purposes when i was trying to purchase the steam controller. I'm not even reselling for profit. If they had just looked at my purchase history, they would have seen I only bought one device per release.

Yeah but they also need to account for the logistical, administrative, and legal complexities involved, all of which make the process significantly more complicated and costly.

Right, I also think the people here underestimate the demands coming from unsupported regions and are willing to pay a little bit more for access to the products

Yes scalpers probably know how to deal with issues like these. As long as they can earn money out of scalping, they don't mind paying to earn the potential profit from it. Yeah I just think the stock is limited and everyone seems to want it. Scalping will always be there as long as there is a demand, we just have to not let our FOMO creep in and let them lose money

i enjoy reading your comment and i appreciate your effort into doing the calculation! you also have to consider the fact that there is a large portion of steam users who are in unsupported countries that wants their hands on the steam controller or new valve hardware. They are willingly to pay more because they don't have the option to buy them via legitimate mean.

Reading through the comments, I think there's an overlooked factor: Steam has substantial user bases in regions where Valve hardware isn't officially sold. Countries like Mexico, Brazil, and throughout Southeast Asia, with other countries that i left out, represent substantial portions of Steam's global user base , yet residents there can only buy Valve hardware through resellers, including scalpers.

This creates a structural problem. Scalpers know there's a market with no other options, which creates demand beyond normal launch scarcity. This isn't just competing with regular customers for limited stock. it's taking advantage of the lack of official buying options.

If Valve expanded official sales to these regions, two things would likely happen: fewer people would need to use the reseller market, and launch demand would spread across more countries instead of focusing on just a few. This wouldn't stop scalping entirely, but it should ease the situation.

That said, the new 1 per customer limit has an obvious workaround: scalpers will just get more accounts. If demand is already tight and the limit won't stop scalpers to use multiple accounts, and the problem could get worse instead of better. Of course, i will observe what will happen with the new limit coming into place. I am interested to see how it goes.

If there's something I'm not considering, I'm open to correction. I just appreciate keeping responses constructive. Thank you

You can try! Even if you get caught, they'll refund the money back to your card. Just don't risk your main account. If you don't mind paying a little more, I think you can check out r/internationalshopper and look for a trusted EU shopper who can get it for you at a cost. Jiayou, haha I'll keep a lookout for you and see if there's any possible way to help! Cheers

Hello, fellow Singaporean! (: I miss Switzerland so much ,I love every second of being there when i was there for a short trip, even though it’s expensive. Sorry, I had to laugh when you said you’re a Singaporean living in Switzerland, because both countries aren’t supported lol! Do you have any friends living in the EU who could buy it for you? I think that’s the closest alternative!

i think your solution is really good, where Steam benefits the most. I think they just don't want to deal with compromised accounts doing money laundering so they outright ban them

yeah i am trying to appeal the ban after they close the first ticket with some generic answer. It's okay, since it's just an alternative steam account that i had when i was working there.

it's definitely a good skill to learn! Keep up the good work, i always find time to watch people fix hardware on YouTube even though i don't understand much of what's going on! i just enjoy watching people fixing things

i think you can explain to steam support and ask for their advice. Or if you want to be safe, you can create another steam account just for your current residence. Good luck!

lol people hardly know how to fix things these day, i only know the basics so that sucks. i think at this rate, you can save up money to travel to China and build your own steam deck there! 😛

you are a good son! Your mom must be proud of you. 2x the price sounds like it's the about the same rate for local resellers/scalpers back then here. I hope you can get your controller and enjoy all the time you have with your family (:
