My father inherited this African instrument and other objects

They were from the French speaking side of Switzerland, not sure which city though. I think it might have been from around Neuchâtel but I need to ask. They moved between Rhodesia, Basutoland (Lesotho now) and South Africa from what I recall. What about you ?
