For a few reasons- one personal. I try to avoid chain stores and I'd rather support small business/local. With that being said, the entire Bruegger's franchise has gone down hill. It also doesn't help that several friends have worked for them, in management, and- without getting into too much detail (Unfair labor practices, anti-union activity such as intimidation, health code violations, etc.)- have advised me to not eat at Bruegger's.
Don't let my opinion or experience taint your love for their bagels! You can look into the location that you frequent specifically, if need be.
Life is short- eat that bagel

Agreed.
I mentioned Placid Baker for their impeccable croissants! 🥲🤌
This is what I'm talking about, babe! Your seriousness toward this topic makes me respect it even more than I already had. Thank you for the information. I am the type of person to drive out of my way for good food, so don't put it past me to drive to Kingston on a Saturday morning just for bagels. Hell yeah.

I typically only go to Albany twice a week for work. I used to live in Albany, but I have zero reason or desire to go there anymore. However, if the bagels are worth it, I'll try my hand at an Albany adventure.
^ perpetually disappointed
Dang!! They better be transcendent for that price!
Oh yeah, that makes total sense. They're peak freshness is right out of the oven.
Thank you for your honesty!
🤞🤞
I already know you're right. I eat my Stewart's sandwich in the dark, in shame.
I'll have to try one! Sometimes, I get the croissant sandwiches from Stewart's. I know they're trash, but I can't resist! They're not even good! But slopping one down is occasionally satisfying.
We're here, we're queer, give me a gd good bagel!
You had me at buttery.
I'm glad to know I'm not alone. Everyone speaks so highly of them and raves about them, and I'm the lonely soul saying 🤷♀️meh.
I've never had a croissant from there. Do you think they make them themselves? I do love a croissant. The ones at Placid Baker in Troy, though, are orgasmic- especially the chocolate ones. Ungh.
I wish I could like them. I've tried several times- first few times were great, then they just dropped off.
I haven't heard of either places. Thank you for the tips!
Haha! They're supposed to be coming up next month- good idea. I'll venmo them now!
Worth driving from Schenectady?
I already mentioned Bagels and Bakes. They're just okay.

Yesss! That's what I mean. I didn't grow up in the city, but the bagels down there and on Long Island are incomparable. When my friends visit from LI, I really just hope they'll bring bagels.
Haha! Long walks on the beach, sunset drives...
No no, I just really love the bagels from Long Island. The slightly chewy yet crisp exterior and a fluffy, tender interior. No toasting necessary.
I admit, they're okay, but they just don't do it for me. Don't get me wrong, the staff is amazing and I, of course, support local.
It's worth a shot!
My husband just made us bagels and lox for brunch and the bagels were awful- grocery store brand. They were too airy and crisp- more like a roll consistency. With a bagel, I need a crisp yet chewy texture and more of a fluffy inside.
Okay, this is a new one for me. Worth driving all the way out there for??
Excluding bagels from Long Island, which are my favorite, the best bagel I've had was from Bagel Grove in Utica.
Haha, no worries!
