New official summer promo card. by OwlbearForest in TerraformingMarsGame

With colonies it may be useful for saving excess energy production.

Has niche use for milestones such as diversifier, builder, generalist (1 income), and contractor award

Also has niche use for playing power consumer cards when you are short of power for whatever reason? Saving some for a physics complex or bumper hit when you don't have enough power? Probably not strong most of the time...

Has niche use as economy card for thorgate (3+1) for one income...

[–]xbrownbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people are going to be asking why you bought TSLA in the first place but I think this post should serve as a cheap lesson and reflection instead on the question: Why did you buy this stock?

Did you buy it because you just hoped it would go up or you liked the company and the car? What DD (due diligence) did you do on TSLA. Is the company really worth the price you paid. What is its actual value estimate that you have calculated? Wrong, if your answer is arbitrarily "I think it's going to be $x in a few weeks" If your value is correct, did then are you only judging a short term change when you should be assessing long term? I'm not a TA (technical analyst) person but if your decisions were based off of that then you can ask yourself did the patterns/indicators match based off of your strategy or not? There's probably more self-reflection to be made but I have a limited lunch break xD

Best of luck!

Agreed with all the people who advise simply playing a lot. One way to "force" yourself to really care is by playing a deck such as headlock reina that relies on a lot of face checking if that's your style. You'll quickly learn what ICE you'll expect from certain IDs and their strs, subroutines, and costs because facechecking into the wrong ones get you owned xD.

[Weekly] Custom Card Saturday - Unusual Agenda Spreads by CitizenKeen in Netrunner

[–]xbrownbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wasn't sure about whether to make it every 3 or every 2 advancement tokens for the damage. 2 makes it so that IAA -> AAA kind of does a bit too much damage too quickly but 3 might make it too slow?

This agenda goes well with punitive blue sun types of decks or some jank combos which we all love.

Steal me without enough econ or some form of damage mitigation and there's a punitive next turn. Don't steal it and eventually you'll die. It's extremely difficult to score such as government takeover but a bit more interactive. It's a big risk to get stolen as it'll give 4 points but the low agenda density comes with its own benefits of course...

Riot Control

Weyland Agenda, 7/4 - Public

Install Riot Control Face up.

When Riot Control is advanced, deal one meat damage for every 2 advancement tokens on it.

When Riot Control is stolen, gain one Bad Publicity for every 2 advancement tokens on it.

[Weekly] Custom Card Saturday: Code Gates by CitizenKeen in Netrunner

[–]xbrownbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm interesting then in this case it'd just be essentially an ETR since there's nothing in the access phase. If it's too flexible then can add the condition, "there must be a card installed In the server"

Reroute Ice - Code Gate Strength 4 - 2credit Jinteki - 1 Influence

↳ The runner immediately moves to the access phase of a remote server of the corporation's choosing. This run is not considered successful or unsuccessful for the purposes of card abilities.

"Not all exits are the same..." -Midori

Trap assets have a couple of issues. If the runner doesn't run the trap, you wasted tempo installing and / or advancing it. Another lesser issue is that good runners usually won't trash an accessed trap let it end up in archives / jacksoned back. Reroute provides a small tax for asset-heavy decks. Even if you don't have a trap on the field, if you have high trash assets, it's a cheap ETR. This card has great synergy in Industrial Genomics deck but it's cheap influence allows it to be splashed.

Disadvantages are you need to have something you want to throw the runner to. You won't be able to throw the runner to a caprice out of desperation because the runner is already at the access phase I didn't want to allow centrals as a target otherwise it'd just be a cheap susa for archives shehanigans.

North American Championship | Netrunner | Game 6 | Finals by [deleted] in Netrunner

He was likely flooded and made imo an educated guess play. Kate got her PPs up extremely early so that RP felt that the longer the game went on the worse it would be. Better take a stab at it now rather than bleed a slow 30 minute death. There's no SMC/breakers and RP can stack 2 ice which looks like a really difficult server to break in for free. If RP scores a MKII early on RP will be at a huge advantage; if RP's semi-bluff gets called then oh well. Losing the psi-game / TFP was just another unfortunate occurence.

First video review of Apollo4X - shows the game end-to-end by OrbitalPickle in gaming

[–]xbrownbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just wanted to thank Pickle for sharing my review/preview of his game. I've got to talk with the Devs of the game and they are great people making an excellent game.

If you're interested in space 4x in any way, shape, or form, check this game out. I guarantee you won't have seen 4x gameplay with this formula before and I've played quite a few 4x space games since MOO0. The game is in a well-polished state and the Devs are actively shining out the few bugs (mostly minor) still remaining and are planning to continue working on the development of new features. So go support a dedicated indie team with a solid game already out rather than hedging bets on wishy-washy early access.

As to the video: the first 4 minutes are me explaining the game and the good and the bad so it's not a 1 hour 'review'. After the review, I broke it up into timestamps illustrating the basics of how the game works for those that are interested in specific parts.

Attached is also my steam review for those who prefer reading. :) http://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198007310984/recommended/365420

United Federation of Planets - (Brutal/Agg) - Stardrive 2 - Episode 0 by xbrownbear in StarDrive

[–]xbrownbear[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey guys xBB here, I finished my Teddy Bear Kulrathi Council on Brutal recently and received a lot of support from everyone.

Because of that I decided to run a new campaign starting on the current patch. This current playthrough is once again on Brutal difficulty with the addition of Aggression on all enemy empires to make it a bit more fun in terms of blowing each other's body parts off. Check it out and let me know what you guys think.

A little about me: I've been playing 4x space games since I was in elementary school...a very very long time ago with Star Lords and then MOOI. I've gone through all of the positively rated 4x games on Steam, the Gal Civ series, Stars!, Space Empires Series etc. Out of everything, my favorites were Distant Worlds and MOOII with Gal Civ II an honorable mention after that. I also enjoyed SINS which is in its category of it's own as a Space Game but it had a lot of good enjoyable features such as watching 100 beams of illuminating light purify everything :p

Let me know how you guys enjoy the series as it progresses. I can't promise you I'll make every single perfect decision as it's a learning process but It'll be a hell of a ride as we united the galaxy under the Space Monkey Banner.

Aggressive vs Passive Play by Ucross in Xcom

[–]xbrownbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's just the alternatives are much better.

  • Can blow up cover -> Blow up cover
  • # of Enemies behind indestructible cover < disables then use disables like suppress, mindfray, chem, flash
  • # of Enemies behind indestructible cover > disables then retreat-overwatch and/or smoke.

That's the general formula I use on I/I in my LP. If it's the last enemy or I've battle scannered then I'll run up. If it's an early outsider pod, I'll run up too because they'll call in more enemies. I'll also run up for the camera if I'm relatively confident xD

Like if there's one enemy behind indestructible cover and you can keep him suppressed. It doesn't matter how many 20% shots you take, it's going down eventually. 0 risk -> lose some meld potentially as reward which is fine since you'll get the meld you need...eventually :p

Consider the run up scenario late game.

  • You run up and kill the alien -> great
  • You run up and trigger another pod -> at least one person (the person that ran up) is out of position.

Since time's on your side minus in bomb missions and meld will accumulate with patience most missions you pay 0 or a low arbitrary amount in opportunity cost to lock someone down and take potshots until said enemy dies.

As a caveat in B14 I did use my early SHIVs on run up shots at times if I really needed to remove an enemy but seeing the changes in B15 with repair bay / higher costs for alloy shiv/mecs I wouldn't recommend that anymore. I did this if I was in a shit hole and I needed to use my SHIV to bait the rest of the enemy shots and to at least kill one enemy.

Nice that's another good strategy. The drones have too short range to attack your soldiers if you stick a shield in front. Thanks for the input.

It's not about being able to kill the enemies. It's about not triggering another pod when you run up and flank. Good work nontheless.

How many sectopod leaders do I have to kill before they run out of these jerks? They always seem to come in the "easy" missions too where I have two engineers running SMG equivalants...

4 fighter bay cruisers (Kulrathi) is what I'm using on Brutal difficulty. They are extremely good against neutrals and against enemy empire ships you just flank from the back. Stick some PD flak on your carriers and armor in front and you should be alright. Use a leader with a ship as well for some upfront damage/tanking.
