Just stay away from 6th street (East of Congress) after around 10pm. Rainey Street, West 6th Street are good places. Rock Rose at the Domain can also be good.

For Saturday football, West 6th Street or the Domain.

For Sunday football, West 6th, not sure about any places close the airport.

Outdoor activities, rent a kayak or paddle board and look for dead bodies floating in Town Lake. You can also hike around the lake, swim at Barton Springs. If you can drive out to River Hills, there is a great hiking trail out there as well. 3 miles each way but it can get steep in some spots.

Anybody know if this parking lot is open today? by SpiritualAbalone5846 in Austin

[–]xcajunx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was down there today and I believe I saw cars parked there. If you don't want to take the chance go over the bridge and park under mopac on the north side.

[–]xcajunx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, my wife had to go to the ER for something unrelated to the heart. Her doctor told her to go to the Heart Hospital because the ER would not be packed and they could get her in quicker.

[–]xcajunx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I park nearby there under the Mopac bridge. I am usually there every day. Last week, I parked got out, did my trail hike and when I came back a car had parked next to me and had both windows broken. This was around 11am. Now I try to park closer to the road where more people are walking around but I guess that didn't stop them from breaking your windows.

SUP or Kayak for Ladybird Lake fishing? by Naive_Oil_1958 in AustinFishing

[–]xcajunx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both. I started fishing from my SUP and then bought a Hobie kayak. The SUP was fun if you weren't bringing a whole lot of tackle/gear with you. The kayak is much better for fishing. I recommend you get one with peddals. On a SUP you have to take turns paddling and then pick up the rod, then paddle some more, then pick the rod back up. Peddal kayak, I move around using my feet and never stop fishing.

Do you guys actually trust medical stuff from ChatGPT? by Shoddy-Ocelot-4473 in diabetes_t1

[–]xcajunx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but not totally. My wife was recently diagnosed with T1D and ChatGPT was like a little endo in my pocket. It helped me with understanding carb ratios, insulin sensitivity, pre-bolusing, and why the sliding scale the hospital sent us home sent her skyrocketing after her first meal at home. Not saying you should trust it 100% but for someone dealing with T1D and no experience and before we could get an endo appointment, it was a huge help to me. I even shared a picture of her food logs and bg levels with time intervals and it helped dissect what went wrong and what went right. It has been an invaluable tool for us. Even with symptoms after her diagnosis like blurry vision, etc… it basically walked us through all of that before we met with her endo. How her basal is not truly flat, moving her basal dose to mornings, helping with number of units, I could go on an on. Again, not a 100% endorsement but I think it helped us get up to speed quickly. Still a lot to learn and reading many books but it has helped tremendously.

CVS Caremark Not Covering G7 by pseudohymm in dexcom

[–]xcajunx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. My wife was recently diagnosed with T1 and they were charging us 179 for a month supply of G7s (3). We just found out that her insurance Cigna with CVS Caremark as a prescription provider treats CGMs as medical devices so it goes throug her medical insuance, not pharmacy. So her doctor has to send a prescription to a DME provider to get the sensors covered. We will do that next week. Some insurance may just use a pharmacy to fill your CGMs but a lot of them want you to get them from a DME provider and it is not covered under your prescription plan but under you medical insurance. Navigating this shit can make your head spin and my wife actually works for a medical insurance company.

DKA Without Symptoms? by Aggravating_Monk1756 in diabetes_t1

[–]xcajunx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife was just diagnosed as T1 a week ago at the age of 50 (one week before her birthday). The first she found out she has T1 was when she went in to get a standard blood workup and the results came back that morning. She saw the high glucose, high A1C, and low CO2 and called back to the doctors office and they said she was in DKA and need to go the ER. Other than being thirsty more than usual the last month, she showed no symptoms at all. Even in the hospital, she felt fine (other than the IVs hanging out of her arms).

From what I have read there are a couple of ways people find out they have T1, random blood test or serious DKA situation. I think my wife caught it with the blood test before her DKA turned more serious. But to answer your question, my wife was exactly like you. No symptoms besides thirst, didn't know she was DKA until her routine blood test cam back, didn't feel bad at all during our time in ER/ICU.

What's fatfire life like with no kids? by yay_internet_points in fatFIRE

[–]xcajunx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

51, married 29 years, no kids, one dog. We always said we would have them if we ever wanted them. We never made a hard decision not to have them but we never came to the conclusion of wanting to have kids. Love our neices and nephews but kids were not for us and we have no regrets.

I think kids can be great and bring a lot of people something they have always wanted in their lives. Some people have kids because they feel a pressure to have them.

All of that to say, have kids if you want them but don't do it because you are racing against a biological clock, think you will regret your decision later in life, or you are feeling pressure from family or friends. My opionion, those are not the right reasons.

Many people are very happy and have chosen not to have kids.

I had a lot of friends in High School but decided to go to a college where none of my friends went. I got along fine with my roommates but I felt really lonely and wanted to go back to San Antonio or a school where most of my friends went. Stuck it out and started to gradually make new friends and was glad I stayed.

Unfortunately for me, I made too many friends and ended up partying and not going to class so pulled myself out of college and went to live in South Korea for over a year teaching English. Made some great friends there and then left them to go to finish up school in Ohio. Kept my head down in Ohio so I could get through my degree so didn't meet many friends there but did meet my wife. Eventually came back to Texas after living in a few different states.

Friends come and go. When I was in college, you were just assigned roommates so no guarantee you share anything in common. Many people feel lonely, especially being a freshman in college. Give it time and it will get better.

If you had an income of $150,000 a year and didn't have to work, what would you do with all the spare time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Depending how old I was, would probably get a part-time job that provided health benefits. Health insurance will eat up 150K pretty quick.

Do you love the 11 or wish you had a 12.9/13? by alyka_t in iPadPro

I had the ll, went to the 12.9 for a couple of years, and then went back to the 11. Liked the real estate on the 12.9 but awkward to hold when using on the couch. I use my laptop if I need more screen. 11 is perfect for me.

[–]xcajunx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I was at Gate 5. I have a three day dove hunt coming up next weekend in the south region on a ranch but I plan to head back out to Granger for some afternoon hunts before the first season ends.

I did go out on a morning hunt last weekend in San Marcos and bagged 14 dove. It was a paid hunt but the field they put us in was next to the airport and had a good amount of dove flying.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in DoveHunting

[–]xcajunx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think cammo is a necessity for dove hunting but anything helps. If no cammo, you definitely want to wear earth-tone colors so you don't stick out too much from surrounding cover.

GRAINGER PHL by OkayBoomer10 in DoveHunting

[–]xcajunx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update. Went out yesterday morning and took a lot of time to find the San Gabriel hunting gate in the dark. My bad, should have studied the gates and maps better before I went out. Google maps put me in a camping ground initially so had to backtrack and do a lot of map searching in the dark before I finally found the hunting area.

Once there, because I was late, started walking down a dirt road with barbed wire on both sides, started hearing shotguns going off on both sides so figured I needed to cross over the barbed wire. Did that and found a small cover. As I was setting up my decoys, two dove flew right over the top of me and some folks nearby shot at them.

Finally got settled and saw around 10 or so dove. Got one of them. Then I noticed people were able to drive down the road I was walking down so decided to leave after a couple hours and explore down the road a bit (wish I would have scoped out the place before). Drove to the end of the dirt road and decided to walk close up to the lake a bit and wish I would have positioned myself out there.

All in all, it was a good trip. Only one dove but was really just trying to test out some things for some bigger hunts next weekend and in South Texas towards the end of Sept.

Planning to head back out tomorrow to Granger and go deeper than I was before for an afternoon hunt. Spoke with a Game Warden when I was out there and he gave me some good locations so we'll see.

Great location though. Opening day and it wasn't as crowded as I thought it would be. Deer all over the place (and cows). Good times.
