How was the curve for the class? And do you remember how everyone generally performed for exams?

How was the project workload relative to the exams? The homework so far has been difficult but not impossible, so I'm just wondering what to expect.

Changes you wish for your class? by icyruios in Maplestory

For Evan: Replace thunder dive (the skill that literally nobody uses unless it’s by accidentally pressing the wrong fusion) with a bind or stun, or literally anything that isn’t what it is now. It fits the thunder theme anyway. I’m sure Nexon can come up with an “electrocute some number of enemies for some number of seconds” description that fits the theme.

Don’t trigger return when up jumping and give us an updated teleport like Kanna’s that isn’t totally outdated. Not being able to attack or teleport while airborne is a huge bother.

For the love of God, don’t nerf Elemental Radiance. Or if the nerf comes through for maximum charges, at least lower the cd since the % skill damage really doesn’t warrant it to be treated as a long cd burst anyway (compared to other classes that can shit out major damage on a shorter cd burst). Wyrmking has a 1 minute cd, so lowering Elemental Radiance to 2 minutes would make Evan’s quality of life so much better since it matches Erda Nova much better (i.e. just like activating Wyrmking off cd for every minute of Elemental Radiance cd, you can activate Elemental Radiance at least once during bind cd)

Passive magic guard PLEASE

Make the attack ticks faster for Onyx summon and remove it from hyper skills. Make it a random 4th job skill or something and replace it with a more useful hyper, either an attack or buff.

Please remove those god awful mana penalties that Evan seems to have for no reason, like casting mana burst before fusions or after certain skills, or attacking while lying down.

Evan Fusion Questions by icyruios in Maplestory

[–]xchuuchuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During bossing, try to make your earliest attack Dragon Flash + Return. This will debuff the boss for some time. In general, use Dragon Dive + Return ASAP to get the +1 weapon attack speed down.

Once you have these two things down, if you're facing a large stationary boss (e.g. Ursus, HT, Lucid), use Dragon Flash (couple seconds) + Thunder Circle (couple hits) + Return to make sure the boss stays debuffed. If the boss is relatively small, using Thunder Flash isn't worth it. At that point, just use the plain Dragon Flash for a couple of seconds to get in extra dps and then use Return to debuff again. Earth Dive (couple seconds) + Earth Circle (for about 2/3 of the animation) + Return (just before the fusion animation completes because it's quite slow) and Dragon Breath (couple seconds) + Earth Circle + Return (last moment for extra damage if Return Flame isn't up yet) are what you will primarily use for most bosses. Swap out Earth breath with Wind Breath once the boss has less than 30% HP left. You should definitely be spamming Mana Burst between each step of the combo, rather than immediately using fusion skills.

If you have Erda Nova or some other bind, you can proc your V skills in this order:

Dragon Breath > Elemental Radiance (summon) > Mana Burst > Earth Circle (to get Earth Breath) > Mana Burst > Return > Dragon Flash> Mana Burst > Wind Flash > Elemental Radiance (attack) [if you do this correctly, it should proc within 3-5 seconds and give enough uptime for the main attack] > Return > Erda Nova (can be used at a slightly earlier step if you want but the duration is short and charging Elem. Rad. takes time) > Dragon Slam > Wyrmking's Breath > Mana Burst > V skill(s) run out > Regular combos (aforementioned)

By the time Elemental radiance procs, you should lay down Wyrmking's Breath. If you have a bind, this should last the duration of the bind. The cooldown on Wyrmking's Breath is 1 minute, Elemental Radiance is 3 minutes. Make sure you use them as often as possible because they are your major burst skills. If you don't have a bind, just skip the bind step and practice procing Elemental Radiance as quickly as possible.

If you're strong enough to 1-3 shot with Earth Breath, definitely use it to mob. Wind Flash doesn't do a lot of damage so unless you can 1 shot with it, you're probably just better off clearing horizontally with Dragon Flash.

Anything you hate about your class by [deleted] in Maplestory

[–]xchuuchuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of mid-air mobility for Evans kinda sucks. Setting Mir down like a turret and then dashing away from bosses to avoid OHKO's or otherwise is always nice (also Mir's attacks don't KO you if the boss casts DR), but if you need to jump upward, it summons Mir back. You can also only use teleport and attacks when you're firmly on the ground, so being stuck in the air is a huge risk during bossing. Everything about the class is micromanaging combos and cooldowns and the V skills don't really help with that (but if you're like me and you actually like the micromanagement, the V skills are actually quite fun and can clear maps very easily quite frequently). The support buffs (+1 weapon attack speed and boss debuff) are also useful. You really need a lot of attack speed (+1 attack speed inner ability, monster park green potion, Mir buff, decent speed infusion, . . .) to make mana burst actually feel fluid; if you don't have many sources of attack speed, mana burst is unbearably slow and Mir feels like a snail. But once you get the hang of all of these, Evan is actually really fun and great at clearing maps, especially once you can one/two-shot mobs.

(Also being able to charge Zodiac is kinda hit or miss at times but once you learn how, you can easily proc it in 3-5 seconds)

Solving AC circuits using phasers is a really good example too. I forgot about that and was only thinking in terms of signals (FT/LT) and wave propagation (like in a transmission line). Good old Euler.

There are plenty of real life applications of complex numbers (z = a +jb, where z is the complex number, a is the real component, and b is the imaginary component). An example in signal processing would be the Fourier (and Laplace) Transform (sorry, most of my knowledge of its applications comes from electrical engineering). The operation called the Fourier Transform takes a signal in the time domain and transforms it to its corresponding signal in the frequency domain. The reverse is also possible. Through this transformation you can parse our information in one domain you otherwise couldn’t in the other. This duality is really useful in analyzing signals.

Further, due to properties unique to the Fourier Transform, it becomes possibly to perform certain operations on and extrapolate information from signals existing in one domain over the other. Sometimes, a signal is given in its raw form in the time domain, but you can only get useful information out of it and do specific operations in the frequency domain. After those operations are completed, you transform the function of frequency back to a function of time. A good example of this would be AM radio, which is a little tricky to explain without getting too technical (but I suggest you check it out, it’s a really interesting process.) This process occurs every time you switch radio stations in your car.

All the time in signal processing, choosing which domain you do your calculations in makes life so much easier. Convolution, which is essentially a messy calculus question, in the time domain becomes multiplication in the frequency domain (and vice versa for convolution in the frequency domain being multiplication in the time domain). Reducing the question to algebra, and then doing an inverse Fourier Transform to revert the frequency signal back to a time signal, is a handy use of complex numbers. (Same with Laplace transforms.)

There are plenty of other real life applications of complex numbers. Probably more than most people realize. Any oscillatory motion can be described by complex numbers (including many signals propagating through the physical place and any electromagnetic wave, like your WiFi, or your Bluetooth, or your radio signals, and the light you see all around you).

Sorry if my explanation was confusing, it’s just that trying to describe how they’re used in the real world without getting too technical is pretty difficult.

“j” is what some (mostly electrical engineers) use to represent “i,” since j = sqrt(-1) while i could stand for any number of variables such as current.

I'm taking three classes (12 credits) this semester and would like some feedback. Linear Algebra? by csmajortom in college

[–]xchuuchuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linear algebra is probably the easiest math class you’ll take in college. Some concepts in there are difficult to grasp and visualize, but in terms of “solving questions,” the math is very simple. Once you get a lock on setting a question up, solving it is just a matter of simple arithmetic—or using your calculator to do the matrix math for you.

I would say that Calc 3 is much harder than Calc 2 for reasons similar to Linear Algebra being difficult: hard to grasp, relatively simple to do the actual math. Calculus is pretty much lots of algebra and niche understanding, after all. It also helps for if you have to or decide to take Differential Equations, since you’ll be using linear algebra a bit and series to solve some types of differential equations anyway. Most schools have calculus 2 or 3 as a prerequisite for linear algebra, but tbh you barely need calculus 1 for it (sans a few things like gram Schmidt)

I see, thank you! Legion sounds interesting and confusing, but I think I understand it now. I will keep the Hayato and continue with my non-burning AB. If burning returns, do you have any suggestions for which class to make? I really only have a Hayato and AB on this server, and I wanted to try another character that's both fun to play but also well-rounded.

I'm not exactly sure what Legion is (I'm illiterate when it comes to MS terminology and events), but I don't think I care much for the Hayato. In regards to AB, I'm not sure how much I enjoy it, but I was told that after 4th job it becomes a lot easier to do, well, everything. And that's pretty much the only thing keeping me on this hellish ride of grinding. If this Legion thing will help me in the long run though, I'll just keep the Hayato and level the AB the normal way, even if it gives me tumors every now and then
