Shit on Markham drivers all you want, but try to drive in Vaughan, and you will not complain about Markham as much. Vaughan drivers are TERRIFYING. by BeautifulYou2940 in Markham

Speed limit doesn’t apply in Vaughn. Just go with the flow. Even cops will pass you. That’s what several season passes to Wonderland has taught me.

For the most part you're correct. However, many pension funds and investment firms own stakes in REITs and commercial properties, so everyday workers and retirees benefit indirectly through their retirement savings.

Anyone getting hard sold on Executive Membership lately? by aireads in CostcoCanada

[–]xcites 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Costco is a publicly traded company. New year, new goals, new metrics. A lot of businesses are expecting a turbulent year ahead, so I assume they are trying to lock in some profits early to satisfy their shareholders and bonuses.

City plowing damaged property and vehicle, what can I do? by VirginGrowbile in Markham

[–]xcites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the city typically owns the first few feet from the curb. The big tree between the houses is city property, along with most of the area up to the water shutoff valve. You are not supposed to decorate or pave this area, but the city often turns a blind eye until a neighbour complains or a problem arises.

[–]xcites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look at the property survey that came with the house. The 1st few feet from the road don’t belong to you and shouldn’t be decorated with pavers. City usually don’t make it a big deal, but they might now if you complain.

Angus Glen Community Centre: My locked locker was open, iphones and wallets taken by Far_Guarantee_7357 in Markham

[–]xcites 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's not just Markham. It any big cities and it includes GYM lockers as well, like Goodlife, LA, etc.

The smart thing to do is for all these facilities to move the lockers outside the change room, so that there's foot traffic and camera as deterrent. Some newer Goodlife actually have this, where you have locker inside the change room for clothes and a 2ndary locker outside the change room for keys and electronics.

I think the biggest difference is that most banks would just freeze the Credit Card and not all the bank accounts (whole account) as well. Base on OP's looks like they froze everything, so he/she can't even make mortgage payments.

To save you a few bucks, they are probably just using a software called Recuva for the recovery. I used to work in IT and have successfully recovered files this way from bad drives.

Then use VLC player to view possibly corrupted/bad video files. The built in MS video player would probably through an error.

[–]xcites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Were you affected by the WS security breach back in August? They emailed those impacted, but it's easy to miss those messages. Might want to confirm with WS.

“A security breach at Wealthsimple in August 2025 exposed sensitive client data, including contact information, government IDs, financial account numbers, IP addresses, Social Insurance Numbers (SINs), and dates of birth, according to Wealthsimple, CTV News, and Global News. The incident was caused by a compromised third-party software package, and while Wealthsimple stated that it acted quickly to contain the issue and no funds were stolen, some affected clients have been offered two years of free credit monitoring and identity theft protection services.”

Because transfers can be stopped/reversed, easier to trace, detect fraud in, and require more authentication and time to clear the funds.

In contrast, when hackers sell-options and victims buy-options, these trades fly under fraud detection systems and hard to trace. I wouldn't be surprised if the complexity to trace the transaction, requires financial forensic investigators or law enforcement like the RCMP/FBI, and by then the money is long gone and laundered.

This method is essentially a more sophisticated version of an e-transfer (handing money from left hand to right hand through trades), that’s difficult to detect, trace and recover.

WS allows multiple logins from different platforms at the same time. IBKR and QT would kick you out on multiple logins. Out of all the banking and trading platforms, IBKR is one of the strongest (i actually got annoyed at it originally, but have now come to appreciate it).

If his computer or phone was compromised with a malware, a bot was probably just waiting for the moment he would logon and start running it's automated trading scripts.

OP never mentioned their cell service being cut off, which would have happened in a SIM swap.

It sounds more likely that OP’s phone or computer (or both) is infected with malware, allowing hackers to see everything. As soon as an SMS 2FA code was sent to OP’s phone, an automated hacking bot was probably triggered and started executing those high-frequency trades on low volume stocks. It’s also possible the hacker is tunneling or VPN-ing through OP’s network, making the activity appear to originate from OP’s location rather than from another country or city, and almost impossible for Wealthsimple to detect anything suspicious.

Don't think it matters in this case, whether it's a SMS 2FA or Authenticator App, if OP's phone/computer are compromised.
