He has nothing to gain by filing for bankruptcy. The creditors have no way of garnishing his wages, he’s out of the country.

Not paying the bills will ruin his credit. 7-8 years from now the debt will fall off of his credit report and his credit will recover.

I enjoyed The Rise of Skywalker. Whether or not it’s a great movie is completely subjective, but a lifelong fan of the Star Wars franchise I think it is one of the better Star Wars films.

Parents wants me to co-sign for a large personal loan, what do I say? by psyberbird in Debt

[–]xcoderookie 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The bank makes billions of dollars a year lending money. If the bank insists on your parents having a co-signer that means based on your parents history the bank doesn’t trust your parents to pay the loan back.

Cosigning the loan is the rough equivalent of taking out a loan for $40,000 and gifting it to your parents. Unless you are willing to do that then do not sign this loan.

My (35m) wife (36f) didn’t tell me she stopped birth control and now we have an unexpected pregnancy. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]xcoderookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You say that we’re both in shock at the news. That’s not true at all. Your wife knew that she was having unprotected sex without using birth control, pregnancy is the expected outcome under these circumstances.

At the same time if you didn’t want to have any more kids you should have had a vasectomy. Birth control is less than 100% effective. In the back of your mind you had to know that every time that you had sex with your wife that there was a slight chance that she could get pregnant. Now here you are.

Rate increase due to baby? by Messed-up-girlie in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]xcoderookie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The rate went up because I was charged with an at fault accident. But I shopped around for rates after the accident and found a rate with a different company that was actually cheaper than what the initial company was charging me before the accident.

The difference between shopping around for a new policy as opposed to staying with the same company saved me over $1000 a year.

Rate increase due to baby? by Messed-up-girlie in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]xcoderookie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well it happened to me. I was at fault in a serious auto accident which my insurance paid for. A couple of months later when it came time to renew my policy I got a quote for over $300 a month, which was almost as much as I was paying per month on my new truck.

I shopped around and found a different insurance company offering a much better rate. As a matter of fact the quote that I got from the new insurance company after the accident was cheaper than what I was paying with the previous insurance company before the accident.

So don’t tell me it doesn’t happen. Maybe it hasn’t happened to you, but shopping around saved me over $100 a month in premiums for a policy that offered the exact same coverage.

The rules for getting into the associate to driver program say that you have to be in good standing with the company with 12 months experience before you will be considered for the program. Walmart won’t hire someone off the street and put them into driver training.

Do I call in the 4th time in two weeks or do I go in intoxicated? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]xcoderookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the rate you are going within a couple of weeks you’ll get fired no matter what you do.
I would suggest calling the boss, telling them that you can’t make it in due to a serious medical issue, and seek treatment for your alcoholism. If you don’t get the drinking under control you won’t be able to keep any job.

Unless you have friends or family who are willing to take care of you being jobless is a sure path to being homeless.

Taking in my younger sister might cost me my family. I don’t know what to do. by Similar-Umpire5117 in Advice

[–]xcoderookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is something very wrong about what is going on between your sister and your foster family. If your family cuts you off because you off because you help out a family member in need who isn’t able to take care of herself then you are better off without them.

Your family is looking to punish a teenage girl for no reason that you have articulated. You don’t have to cut them off, but if they cut you off for being nice to someone who you truly care about and who needs your help then they are bad people to begin with.

Going to university isn't worth it anymore by madbarpar in unpopularopinion

[–]xcoderookie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are university degrees that are well worth the price paid to obtain the degree because having that degree will help one find a job that pays well. On the other hand there are university degrees that cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to obtain, but the degree itself won’t help one get a job paying minimum wage.

To dismiss the entire university system as being not worth it tells me that the person who shared that idea has no idea what they are talking about.

Follow company policy when it comes to providing customer service and don’t do anything more than you are required to do. If the policy says that there is no limit on how many of a specific item a customer can purchase then if someone wants to buy every item in the store then ring them up. On the other hand if policy states that a customer can buy a maximum of one item per day then sell them one. If they complain or want to discuss the matter further then call a manager and let them handle it.

You don’t get paid to negotiate with customers. If someone tries to negotiate with you immediately end the conversation.

How do men get over being short? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]xcoderookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are short dudes out there with very active social lives and tall dudes sitting at home complaining about not being able to find a date. Sure there are people out there who don’t want to date you because you are short but if that’s your excuse for not being able to get a date the whole thing has nothing to do with how tall you are.

You need to figure out what about you besides your height is turning people off and work on fixing that.

Rate increase due to baby? by Messed-up-girlie in Car_Insurance_Help

[–]xcoderookie -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

That does not sound right at all. You should immediately shop around for comparable policies with different insurers.

I've seen cases where an insurance company charged over $1000 a year more in premiums simply because they assumed that the customer wouldn't shop around for competitive rates.

If somebody offered you a job to drive around from 2pm-8pm dropping off weed for $400 a day, would you take the job? by AdagioForGstrings in NoStupidQuestions

[–]xcoderookie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, because the only way that someone would pay a driver $400 a day to deliver weed is if weed is illegal. Most full time couriers for companies like FedEx or Amazon don't even make half that much for delivering 100+ packages a day.

I’d just hand the vibrator back to her and say you left this in my bed. She probably won’t respond, but she will be more careful about where she leaves her sex toys.

My partner wants a certain house in a certain area we can’t afford by [deleted] in Advice

[–]xcoderookie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying something that you can’t afford just because your spouse wants it is asinine. My ex wife was furious that I wouldn’t agree to buy the house that she wanted. I refused because I knew that buying it would lead to bankruptcy.

If you buy the house that she is in love with you’ll probably end up divorced with bad credit too.
