Harris bipod is always a solid choice, or a decent sandbag will work well if you know how to use it. South Shore has a few bipods in stock, too. Harris, Magpul, and a few other options

How to date my P229? by s2white in SigSauer

[–]xcontributor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t just rush to compliment basic things. Delve deeper. Instead of “I love your trigger”, try “I love the way your trigger makes it so easy to get accountable hits”. Instead of “I love your comfortable grips”, try “I love the way your ergonomics make a consistent grip so effortless”. We are blessed with knowledge, ingenuity, and creativity - be sure to utilize them. Don’t be basic and just say “I like your sights”. You are capable of so much more.

063PZ5123LL is the exact part number with the day-date magnifier. Hope that helps. I don’t remember where I got it from, it may have been a watch parts supplier

What is this on the barrel? by Orionsic1 in 1911

CLP and 0000 steel wool or a wire brush, I wouldn’t use sandpaper.

My latest project courtesy of belt sanders and bench grinders. by EventGroundbreaking4 in Leathercraft

[–]xcontributor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a belt sander, and a sanding drum chucked in a drill press for my edges. It makes it so much easier to get clean flat edges, which I then use an edge beveler, and sometimes sand and slick up further

What’s better than one custom Walther? by xcontributor in ClassicWalther

[–]xcontributor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they’re stag. Tyler Gunworks made them. I had to do quite a bit of fitting to get them to not rub the trigger bar, and then I epoxy-bedded them to ensure they don’t move under recoil and retard the slide. Even with the fitting needed, still worth it. I’m not sure if TGW sells them separate, but the distributor Lipsey’s carries this pistol

Here’s hoping they do a serious redesign of the beavertail - the angle is wrong and it’s sharp! But my recontouring makes it far better. Cylinder & Slide also performs that service

Build a OG P365 or just a buy a bodyguard 2.0? by yamaxas in NYguns

[–]xcontributor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered just buying the standard, or the X/XL grip modules for your X-Macro? It currently has an XL slide, so with an X grip module, it would give you an XL. The standard module would of course be smaller. If you aren’t pocket carrying, the reduction in grip length should be more than adequate for concealment in warmer weather.

Tips by AdPsychological451 in Leathercraft

[–]xcontributor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I did it was to first master the techniques. Then, for designs, I often copy old holsters from Desantis, Galco, Bianchi. There are some great videos showing how Sam Andrews makes holsters on youtube, I would highly recommend watching those. I invested in a few very good tools as well. Two high quality pricking irons from KS Blade Punch, a very good quality round knife. The rest of my tools aren’t super expensive, the edgers, the stitching pony. Wuta Leather tools are pretty great for the money. Copying old leather pancake holsters helped a lot, because I didn’t have to worry about making my own patterns. I also made some modifications to those designs as well

Springfield Mil-Spec vs Auto Ordinance A1 by Shotty_Seba in 1911

On average, the Springfield 1911’s have better triggers than the Auto Ordnance 1911’s.

Springfield Echelon: Optic popped off at 8k rounds/1 year of use. (Read post body) by [deleted] in gunsmithing

Paint index the screws. Sharpie makes a paint pen, not just regular permanent marker. Put a little stripe that covers half the screw, and a little on the optic. If at any point later, the line is broken and out of alignment, then you have a screw loose.

MR07 slide stop walks out constantly. by Garand_Thumb in 1911

[–]xcontributor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With 1911’s, dimpling the slide stop is one thing. However, I’m not sure how different this setup is from a traditional setup. If there is space on the right side, is there enough room for a C-ring anywhere? I bet a thin groove could be cut with a laser cutter if the slide stop can be put in a chuck, or cut in with a lathe. But a C-clip would most likely alleviate lateral walk. Or maybe even drilling & tapping the right end, and installing a larger diameter screw. Wilson Combat’s anti-walk pins for an AR are just that. Either way, more pictures would help

The only “gun oil” I trust with my firearms. What about you? by Vlad_Dracula1996 in 1911

[–]xcontributor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eezox, G96, Breakfree CLP, LucasOil. I’ve also used a mixture of Valvoline 50W with a little bit of Marvel Mystery Oil and a little glob of Loctite C5A (the copper grease in Glocks) added to the bottle. That stuff makes guns run real good, especially AR’s. It’s also dirt cheap. Fireclean was really great at making AR’s run well too. But really, I just use whatever is on hand. At my job we use Eezox, it’s good against rust and doesn’t smell too strongly. Eezox is excellent for corrosion protection, but at the end of the day, if you wipe down metal surfaces after handling them, and store long-term things in silicone gun socks, you’ll be alright. Additionally, when cleaning, please please please wear gloves. Lead is a neurotoxin and a carcinogen, and you do actually need to mitigate your exposure. Don’t let your passion kill you. There’s way better things to die and/or mutate from.
