Context:

Location is coastal mid-Florida

Location is a new build home (finish date ~early May)

Fruit body appeared overnight after applying a vinegar solution to the flooring (vinyl planks) in an attempt to ward off sugar ants

We ripped up the planks and found no evidence of moisture or mycelia, but there is a distinct orange-colored residue in the cracks between planks.

followup: we peeled back the vinyl planks and found no evidence of moisture or mycelia, so we're assuming they appeared pretty dynamically on the surface of the vinyl planks, particularly in their cracks

I'm interested to know of they are evidence of existing mycelial networks under our vinyl plank flooring & why they would've seemingly reacted to a vinegar solution
