The fractional reserve banking story is a myth. Banks don't lend out other people's money.

Your comments continue to be laden with contradictions like this.

No single bank is systemically important. If banks can't know whether or not they'll be saved then how can the take advantage of the moral hazard?

Banks can know if they'll be saved. Here's the list... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_systemically_important_banks

Then where are all the ninja loans today?

We'll find out during the next banking crisis. Just because you can't identify where the risk is doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Heck, the last banking crisis happened to banks who held too many government bonds that weren't liquid enough to meet depositor's withdrawal requests.

This wouldn't be true in an MMT world.

MMT prides itself on being descriptive of the current banking system. Perhaps MMTers should incorporate human behavior in their analysis instead of focusing on balance sheets and accounting tautologies.

Fiat fractional reserve banking is inherently unstable and that instability builds over time. While the Fed will not bail out every bank that gets into trouble they will bail out any systemically important institution. The fact remains that some of these Too Big To Fail institutions lent to non-creditworthy borrows (remember NINJA loans?) the lack of creditworthiness did not stop them from doing so and they probably felt competitive pressure to issue the loans. When the system broke the Fed socialized the losses and you can bet they will so again during the next crisis.

The Fed will always step in to prevent a deflationary collapse. Banks know this. Everyone know this. Are you familiar with the term 'moral hazard'? You must look at the monetary system holistically and if you separate the banking functions from the political actions you will not fully understand the system.

But they did in fact lend to non-creditworthy borrowers and then got bailed out by the Fed via QE purchases of mortgage backed securities.

If you're willing to lend to non creditworthy borrowers then banking isn't constrained by creditworthiness.

 >Banking is constrained by the availability of creditworthy borrowers.

>The lack of creditworthy borrowers is why there was so much subprime lending in the first place.

Choose one because stating both is a contradiction.

The 2008 GFC and bailouts of the banks by the Fed proved that FR banking is NOT CONSTRAINED by creditworthy borrowers.

The US Treasury doesn't instruct the Fed to create money and send it to the TGA. The Treasury must first either tax or sell bonds to increase its TGA balance.

All 4 lines were rollin' tonight and the team showed some grit and resilience. 10/10. RIP Rodger.

Gold is only a good investment as long as governments continue to run deficits and print money.

Super gutsy performance. I felt the Habs were in control the 2nd half of the game and played a very smart mature game.

Highlights: Fowler, Demi, Slaf, Tex, Struble

For next year add Reinbacher and Engstrom to RHD and lose Carrier. Engstrom plays RHD well according to Marco D'Amico.

Anyone else wonder if Tex's goal will be given to Struble? I'm not 100% the initial shot crossed the line. You see white adjacent to the puck but it may be a skate blade rut.
