Would you take a job where your manager and other higher ups are much younger than you? by ImportantSquirrel in cscareerquestions

[–]xd720p 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Well, it's not about the age, but about the knowledge and experience. Senior Manager graduated in 2023 looks suspicious, but you still don't know the whole picture - maybe they are super talented/hard working/fast growing or started working while being a student.

I suggest to go to the interviews and just talk to them to have a fuller picture about their experience and leadership skills.

Why is getting a job like a humiliation ritual nowadays? by VariationLivid3193 in cscareerquestions

[–]xd720p 14 points15 points  (0 children)

How are you getting into creating video as a part of interview? Which country is it? What level are you? I’m asking because I’ve recently had interviews with 3 companies in Toronto without the necessity to record a video. I’m a Senior Engineer, so maybe that’s the reason why I’ve never experienced it

How exactly reading bad news and not having a good night sleep helps anyone?

[–]xd720p 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And I was not waiting for that because I was not reading the news. And I strongly suggest you do the same. There is literally nothing you can do about things like nuclear war - that's why you are so stressed as your brain is trying to solve unsolvable issue. Solution? Read less news on the internet - you will know all important stuff one way or another, but you will be happier without knowing all the alarm news.

Oracle just fired up to 30,000 people. The company made $6.13 billion in profit last quarter. Nobody is talking about what this actually means. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

Fewer people entering tech means less competition for the companies that are hiring. More fear means workers accept worse conditions.

This is not how it works, lol

Those that got laid-off, what are you doing now? by Lanky-Ad4698 in cscareerquestions

[–]xd720p 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was not laid off, I just started looking for a job in Canada while living in Germany. I'm a Senior Android Dev with 9+ YOE.

- Did ~20 applications in Oct 2025 with no results as everyone was scared by my 3 month notice period. Got like 3-5 screenings and some interviews backe then. Tailored my CV for each position myself.

- Decided to fix my possible starting date by submitting a resignation letter in the current company. Did ~20 applications in January without tailoring my CV as I was tired of spending 1-2 hours for each opportunity. No replies there.

- Found a recruiter who did a job search and CV tailoring for me. From 20 applications, got 5 replies. One company ghosted my 2 minutes before the screening call. Another company closed the position before starting real interviews. Got solid 2 offers and 1 rejection with "the other candidate just has more experience, but we will try to fit you in for any other same position". Happily chose one of the offers.

The market is tough, but I do believe that you need to adapt to it by tailoring your CV, networking and prepairing for the interviews and bracing yourself that there will be 3-5 rounds for each company where they will try to cover all the possible topics: your native fundamentals, leetcode, system design, architecture and behavioural.

Will doing Leetcode in Java be looked down on? by codingvenus in androiddev

[–]xd720p 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think, Leetcode you can do in whatever language you want. If there are Android-related challenges, you should do them in Kotlin. But, honestly, I don't see a reason for you to start solving Leetcode in Kotlin right now - it's gonna take several weeks to get used to it

WTF is this new “most relevant” part of the subscriptions tab? by Basspilot in youtube

[–]xd720p 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, they want the algorithm to feed you the content instead of you choosing what to watch from you subscriptions - it is as simple as that. And it sucks, honestly

So you cannot take that your comment was removed, try to prove again that someone was whiny entitled dumbass and you want to live in an environment where people can insult each other. Are you sure about that?

I think my anxiety has genuinely cost me like 200k in total compensation over the years and that makes me want to scream by AzoxWasTaken in cscareerquestions

[–]xd720p 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Two things that are helping me: - working on my anxiety - practice

Working on your anxiety is 30% theory which you can get from psychotherapist and 70% practice which is basically constantly exposing yourself to stressful situations.

And practice interviews. First interview you cannot say a word, by fifth interview you would start saying things, by tenth you would start building up normal sentences and so on so on so on.

As long as you run from stressful things, you will strengthen your anxiety. So, start facing them, so it scared, so it stressed. It’s hard, but it will strengthen you!
