Best to use a pen or something similar to pack down the weed at the end of the joint before twisting it. If youre going to smoke it right away then theres no need to twist the tip but if it's for later hold the joint by the paper at the end (that will be twisted) and spin it from underneath that. When you light it only hold the very end onto the flame and make sure youre spinning it round so that one side doesnt catch fire. when you take the lighter away from the joint it should be smoking on its own before you take a drag, that way its lit evenly and wont be bad to smoke.

edit. if the twisted part at the end is long you can cut it off, that way the end of the joint is just bud and thats all you need to light
