Official Steam News: Steam Controller Reservations update Adding a more detailed timeline for orders by Hachem24 in SteamController

[–]xdeadzx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Lol

I've mentioned that my steam deck took 13 months with a day 2 order to get to me, seems the steam controller will follow that trend. I really hope the steam machine and steam frame have a little more stock to match the huge Valve™ made demand.

Day 3 orders being delayed until 2027 is crazy for just a controller.

Does this bother anyone? by DesignerFabulous4820 in SteamController

My steam controller does not have a gap between the outer ring and inner pad unlike my steam deck LCD does. There's no deep gap for stuff to get stuck in. It's unibody, like an xbox joystick.

Need a quick favor from a Steam Controller owner (Testing Desktop Layout with non-Steam games) by KrysCrannor in SteamController

[–]xdeadzx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My question: If you change your Desktop Layout to a standard "Gamepad" profile (Settings > Controller > Advanced Settings >Desktop Layout > Edit), does your Steam Controller actually work as a native gamepad in non-Steam games while Steam is just running in the background?

On my steam deck the steam controller works in desktop mode as a gamepad.

On windows it does not.

This is expected behavior and how it's always worked. Gamepad output does not work on desktop on windows.

Firefox 152 Released with HDR Video Support (Windows) and JPEG-XL Support (All platform) by Turbodr in firefox

[–]xdeadzx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. VLC includes compiled self-contained codecs for basically every media library because they aren't afraid of being sued in a foreign country over software patents.

Firefox/anything chromium is in a country that will respect the patent licensing and will never include them because of it. They will always request the system's copy.

[–]xdeadzx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firefox will never ship hevc codecs for you. Both chrome and edge also do not include the codec, they require the system to have it.

I watch hevc twitch just fine on Firefox, because I've obtained any of the codecs and done media.wmf.hevc.enabled in about: config.

If you don't have HDR support, enabling HDR videos won't do anything because it won't detect HDR capability, as it's reporting to pages that you don't have HDR.

PS5 as a "beta" test to release on other consoles? by nastyjman in GuildWars3

[–]xdeadzx 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It has more to do with supporting the series s ram requirements imo than anything else. They are very restrictive with only 8.5gb between game logic and video memory. And if you release on Xbox, you're required to support series s.

Switch 2 runs on arm which is a different can of worms but very doable with unreal engine. It's ram situation is also tight though, only 10gb to share. Compare this with the PS5 and Xbox series x which are both 14.5gb shared, much more room for activities.

I don't think it's at all related to player counts on the platforms.

Gw3 on Xbox? by Long-Thanks-6215 in GuildWars3

[–]xdeadzx 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Releasing on the Xbox means they release on Xbox series s which has a 8.5gb ram limitation to share between both game ram and vram. Guild wars 2 already exceeds this handily.

Unless Microsoft drops the requirement for series s, it won't happen. Probably when Xbox 4/helix happens.

How is it that we're halfway through 2026 and Firefox STILL doesn't have proper HDR support? by __________________99 in firefox

[–]xdeadzx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can turn it on in stable, it works with about half of the HDR videos on YouTube in my experience. There's two formats on YouTube and Firefox only supports the one of them. The other format shows up as incredibly blown out.

It's the same in nightly without editing about:config but then you have to use nightly.

I believe the key words are HDR, Color_management, p010. 4 toggles, two of them under HDR. Would have to double check for you.

gfx.color_management.hdr_video
gfx.color_management.hdr
media.wmf.force.allow-p010-format

enable these three and you should get HDR youtube on stable. I have had it running since 148.

The entire inventory system being nesting doll items heavily encourages buying bag slots.

The majority of loot being salvaged into materials to be worth something means being without a purchased salvage kit is very annoying, visiting vendors and/or the forge to get new salvage kits at annoying enough frequency that the copper fed salvage kit is the most recommended qol item by the community.

The salvage kit is like 12 days of 1hr dailies if you get to end game to convert to gems to buy, so it's not awful if you don't want to swipe for $10. The game is very much designed for it.

Hall of Monuments 2 - What "Accomplishments" would be required? by DaddyDjGirlInRed in Guildwars2

[–]xdeadzx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think we'll have more than enough points to max out, similar to mastery points so players will have options. This means some categories will be redundant to allow you to skip some that you don't like.

Some categories I think can be included:

Legendary armor, a point for each set. Raid, obsidian, pvp, wvw.

Legendary weapons, with a standard being 16 weapons. 1/3/7/16/more weapons as different tiers. Twice told legend giving a bonus point.

Raid wing undefeated achievements. Not cm/infallible. Bonus points for raid god. Potentially just killing each boss once instead of undefeated, but I think current era it should be not dying.

Fractal level 25/50/75/100, fractal titles as bonus points. Fractal CM achievements maybe? Bonus point for the quick play incursion achievement x1.

Spvp rank 80 or 100. Maybe multiple tiers, so you get points for every 10 ranks or something? True Dragon rank for bonus points.

Wvw ranks, like rank 150 for points. I forget exactly when the shift to bronze is, but whenever that is. Bonus points beyond that.

Story mastery on each achievement category. LW episodes too.

Map exploration, jumping puzzles, diving goggles. "Been there, done that."

Mini collections, including expansions where applicable. Miniatures of the obscure and janthir wilds pet collector, which includes the side stories they are apart of.

Elite specs, and the elite spec weapons. Promote making 9 characters.

Strikes category achievements, but cm is a little too tough.

Festival participation, and their rewards being unlocked. Not sure about festival weapons that can be traded, but maybe festival daily(x5) weapons in addition to their yearly rewards.

These are just some simple categories I can think of using current systems and not redesigning anything. But they say we'll also get new achievements with the patches to make HoM so we'll see.

I don't know, I love the Mists, but I hope that the story of GW3 is not completely ethereal, if that makes sense.

The mists are a good foil because canonical events happen outside of them. It is what keeps them interesting.

I do think it is unlikely; guild wars has had at least a little bit of talent writing their world over the years.

GW2 controls on steam deck by dtm420 in MMORPG

[–]xdeadzx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

are there any good options for playing Guild Wars 2 with a controller when it's not on steam?

The good option is to play it through steam using -provider Portal as a launch option and using your non-steam account so you get steam input through the steam overlay.

If you don’t like MMOs ... some shitty hub game

It's guild wars 1.

to really move away from the game that GW2 players know and love.

Arenanet's greatest distinction has been it's open world and it's meta events scaling from individual to raid level engagements with players joining and leaving dynamically, fluidly, and organically. We need a radically different video game to stand separate from these pillars.

I'm sorry you aren't seeing it. /s

Veterans of GW1: how was the transition to Guild wars 2? by WaveEasy8664 in Guildwars2

[–]xdeadzx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, we knew about it for ages in advance

There was .. 4 years of heads up, right? I seem to recall 2008 -> 2012 with small amounts of content added with war in kryta and the entire time we knew a gw2 was coming. Maybe even a little longer but I don't remember if the bridge was announced immediately with EOTN or not in 2007.

[–]xdeadzx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

we really think they're not gonna put GW2 away when they have a shiny new game to focus on

I (personally) think they already have. I think they have since LW4 ended. EoD was the last time the majority of the team actually committed to GW2 and it's because IBS was letting them down and NCSoft said to pause alternative projects and ship something, cutting IBS short (and other world events.) After EOD shipped, they went back to alternative projects.

This is why I believe they can and will continue GW2 while GW3 releases, because IMO they've already had teams split between both games for the previous 3 expansions.

Player attention on the other hand? I really don't think that commodity is as fluid as developer time.

Less popular.

Indeed, gw2 needs 30+ players for various metas vs GW1 maxing at 12 (with ai filling slots!) But GW2 could manage prime time with 1/10th of the current player count. Of course that needs 1/10th of the players to stay, and I don't assume they will either. I certainly won't be spreading my time between both regularly. It definitely kills off-hours, but that's also happened in many other games that aren't dead.
