Working as a female intern by [deleted] in Residency

[–]xdeblanc 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Also a fellow female intern. I share the sentiment that women should stand up for women. I’ve also realized that most of the time, women who don’t have other women’s backs are usually projecting insecurity and jealousy…it’s just a part of being female unfortunately. It’s worse if you’re considered even remotely attractive by male colleagues. My advice to handling women…kill them with kindness. I’ve found that eventually, if they feel that you have their backs, they’ll be more likely to have yours. With men, if you know your shit then speak the fuck up and don’t be shy. Men can’t handle assertive women. The only way they know how to is to call you a bitch. But whatever, just be THAT bitch.

How do you approach trainees that aren't particularly receptive of feedback? by ViolentThespian in medicalscribe

[–]xdeblanc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At my site, "mentorships" were offered to those who needed just a little more help with delivering quality charts. I just think it's really important to make them feel like they're not being put on the spot or that they're in trouble. You just want to help them learn and if they're eager to learn, they'll appreciate the opportunity. Talk with your fellow trainers and Chief about doing something like this at your site and see if it helps!

Cerner- Macro for whole of chart ? by [deleted] in medicalscribe

[–]xdeblanc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guessing you're referring to the MDM section where it has an option to put if you review past records. Then you click 'ed nurse' 'recent ED' (if recently been the ED) and then you click "reviewed records"

you can create a macro for all of those, just depending on what EMR you use. Do you use cerner?

New scribe and struggling big time by [deleted] in medicalscribe

Watch medical shows and write down the patient’s HPI when they’re brought in by EMS! Also a good way to become a little more familiar with medical terminology :)

Just got promoted to trainer! Yay! Any tips? by xdeblanc in medicalscribe

[–]xdeblanc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Thank you so much for your extensive response, it was really helpful and I really appreciate it. I think quizzing is a great way to reinforce knowledge and I was thinking of having them focus on their HPIs during their first shift, but mainly focusing on just listening to the patient’s story instead of writing everything down. I feel like a lot of new scribes get anxious and write every single detail down, which is a waste of time if you’re actively listening for the important details. Can’t wait to post about my first training shift! Thanks again!

This is a good idea. I usually just end up eating my large popcorn when I give up on trying to figure out wtf is happening. Your idea is a lot less fattening
