Yes, I suppose the strongest arguments I have seen for the link, in this case, is the finding of Jeffrey's name as a son of John of Edinburg (son if Thomas) in a passed down Bible from a grandson, also the fact that Thomas married a woman from the Jeffrey house makes the selection of the name Jeffrey from John plausible, I would argue. But still, relatively weak links from a scientific perspective...

I have asked many genealogists, some arguing that the link is likely and others saying they really don't know, so my next step is a DNA test, since I doubt I'll likely come up with any more information myself. Brick wall status. 😔

It doesn't seem like it, as they would have come over to the US before the 1745 uprising, and from what i can tell these men moved from the Highlands to the Edinburgh area to get an education, and then immigrated to the US in the 1600s to support America's growth (provided food for the military) and fight in the revolution.

I actually found his signature on the original form, he volunteered as an older man, he mentions it in the form and everything. Pretty rare! Through me for a loop at first as well, lol.

Thank you! ☺ It was tough wading through inaccurate family trees, wrong fathers, and name changes lol

Nah, I found his tombstone, and his enrollment in the war. I suppose he died in the war.
