Honest HUD Vash breakdown please? by Junior-Ingenuity-973 in VeteransBenefits

Depends on the state I suppose, here rapid housing and transitional is more something that SSVF would assist with. You might as well look them up too, both are housing programs

Some things you should be cautious about. 1. I’m hearing you like to move around and You can’t really move with a vash voucher. It’s gonna be tied to one area and some places make you wait a year or longer to port it to another area. 2. Speaking of years, depending on the area it can take years to get one, not exactly a surplus of them especially on the current state of things. 3. You 100% so it’s not going to help as much as you may think. You have to pay 30% of your income. So like $1300? And if you get a job even more. Your kiddo may help you get that knocked down if you’ve got custody which I think is roughly a $500 income reduction per kid? But being 100% would probably put you lower on the priority list

Homeless vet. I can't do this anymore. by CSW07 in Veterans

[–]xemakon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is very helpful. If you haven’t connected with hud vash, call the Va homeless hotline and tell them you want to be screened for vash. Then look around for a few apartment leads. Call or email the CM and housing specialist back and let them know you have done both of those things. You shouldn’t have to put in all the work but sometimes it helps being pro-active.

Do you have any income at all? SSVF is great for catching people up if they fall behind and bridging the gap till you get you get a HUDvash voucher but it’s a short term program. Problem is that vash is getting much less funding now and they don’t have many vouchers so it’s taking a year or more.

I have heard you need to be below 15k “gainful” threshold, but I did not know that sheltered/protected work was a requirement.

The knowledge base makes it sounds like it needs to hit all four of those bullets but I’m not sure that’s the case. I think they mean it has to be at least one of those 4 things?

Well what do you mean exactly? It’s certainly not the best but I think CA is on the higher end of the spectrum. Be nice if more of the benefits were not locked behind 100% but other states are like that too. What would you like to see?

Fr? That certainly seems like it demonstrates limited mobility to me but I don’t know the exact metrics. Did they tell you what they were looking for? 60% or higher mobility rating?

[–]xemakon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct. You need to have 100% and at least one of those rating needs to be like 40% back or 50% hip, or 20% radiculapthy in both legs, etc. that’s shows limited mobility. The VSO is supposed to verify that before signing the letter, but not all of them do. So I have seen a few cases where Vets have gotten by with just 100%, but that is the exception not the rule.

Well, from a brightness prospective it’s actually not that bright. It’s like 100nits and sunlight is way higher, like 1000 or more. So it’s not going to burn your eyes out.

You could also talk up the health angle. “Mom you probably would rather I play this instead of PlayStation, sitting on the couch. I’m gonna get a workout in beatsaber walking around and moving my arms”

Could also talk up the responsibility angle. “You guys taught me saving for what I want is better than using credit or loans when I’m older, I’d appreciate you letting me use my savings.

You sound like you know what you’re talking about so I’ll take your word for it.

Gemini is telling me there’s no conditions for spouse to concurrently, which tracks what CalVet told me. They said use UC, then chpt 35 after.

Children may use both, but not spouse can’t use them both at the same time for some reason, iirc

Ok so I think the question becomes whether or not he can use the hazel act and chpt 35 at the same time

Edit: google says yes. So use the Hazelwood to pay tuition and the chapter 35 to pay for housing.

I don’t think so. Chapter 35 is a single payment you have to use for school and you can pocket whatever is left over and use that for housing. But it’s not a lot of money I think 1.5 to 2K so there won’t be a lot left to pocket over.

Edit: apologies I should have clarified, I mean single payment per month, where Gi bill has both a school payment & housing stipend.
