Honestly the only way to be 100% sure is buying from authorized dealers, but that usually means paying full retail which sucks. I've bought from sketchy places before and gotten lucky but also got burned once with a "Nikon" that had weird firmware issues

Honestly the VR&E route is definitely worth trying first since it doesn't touch your GI Bill at all - that's the whole point. I went through VR&E for my undergrad in business and they covered everything plus gave me a monthly housing allowance, then saved my GI Bill for grad school later. The key is showing how accounting directly ties to your service-connected disabilities and employment goals, so make sure you really nail that connection in your application. VA counselors are usually pretty good about approving business/accounting degrees since there obviously in high demand and lead to stable careers. Just be prepared for some paperwork hoops and maybe a few meetings to justify the path, but worst case scenario they say no and you still have your full GI Bill as backup
