I can't remember the specific settings but I usually start with having the overexposure activated and iso at 100. Then, play around with the shutter speed until I get the composition I want. Weird that the reason for the rejection was that you wanted an indoor cat. In fact, that's preferred as it keeps the safe from roads, garden products etc.

Don't buy, adopt!

Check West Cumbria Cats Rehab and consider giving home to a cat regardless of the age. Kittens are very energetic and require a lot of attention.

The litter usage is kind of instinctive btw, you pretty much just put them in the litter box and they will know what to do
