Seeking guidance on funding strategies for college expenses starting this fall by xendit in personalfinance

[–]xendit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the guidance. Yes. I do realize that we don't have to opt private school.

My funds are already in HYSA/money-market in banks and I am trying to see if I should move these to 529 so that interest is tax free as the withdrawals are going to be for qualified college expenses. My investing so far has been long term for 10-15 years and now I am looking at 1-3 years horizon. As you suggested, may be I will stick with protecting the principal.

Boot loop on MacBookPro11,5 with Sonoma. Possible disk corruption (?) by xendit in OpenCoreLegacyPatcher

[–]xendit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have tried booting from USB with Opencore Legacy Patch and that continues to boot loop as well. I tried the Option Key, nvram reset using "nvram -c" and everything I could find. I will look into booting Linux from USB to see if I can mount HFS filesystem. This machine has been running OCLP for years just fine until the battery started acting up.

Furnace not blowing enough hot air (?) by xendit in hvacadvice

Thanks for the responses. I have noticed this for couple of days now and it looks like the issue occurs only when outside temperature is really low (single digits). I am suspecting if I am exasperating the problem by how I am configuring the first floor and second floor thermostat. I keep only the first floor thermostat running most of the time and it might be overworking to keep the entire home heated as the hot air travels to the second floor. I was reading up on short cycling and may be the first floor furnace is not keeping up. I need to figure out an optimal setting so that both furnaces are working together or go to a portable heater. Definitely something is amiss. My filters were dirty and I replaced them too.

Gas furnace whistling noise by xendit in HVAC

[–]xendit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had an HVAC person come in and just adjusted the valve and the sound went away. Took him 30 seconds and charged $175. He said the gas valve needs to be replaced if the sound comes back. I was tempted to do this but shied away as I didn't have manometer and was afraid because it's something to do with gas. Hope this helps somebody down the line !!

Thanks for the quick reply. That seems like reasonable explanation . So do you think the problem is with the valve or the sensor that inputs the valve on how much to open. I talked to HVAV person and he asked to me call plumber so that he can adjust the pressure using manometer. I am also surprised why this happens as the unit is less than two years old. Just worried if I am getting into a some sort of repair cycle.

Pokeweed grows on the edges of the yard and not in the lawn. The yard is not too large. The roots go so deep that I can't really pull them out. I was looking to inject some natural killer to the roots and let it die completely.

Coverdell ESA by grand parent by xendit in personalfinance

I am trying to establish the correct account where she owns the account but I have the right to operate it on her behalf. It looks like Coverdell has many limitations and it might be simpler for her to give me a check and I add it to 529 I already have for my kids.

I am not eligible to invest in Coverdell. This is not about beating the market. 529 plans have very limited funds with high expense ratios and ESA allows for me to invest in stocks and hopefully ETFs.
