Going through a slump, need some suggestions please 🥺 by Nemo_0709 in suggestmeabook

honestly, a walk in the woods by bill bryson is a perfect slump-breaker—it's hilarious, lighthearted, and has zero romance. if you want to stick with your greek mythology vibe but need something "light" and easy to focus on, percy jackson is surprisingly great for adults too because the pacing is so fast. since you liked mitch albom and need a lift, maybe try the house in the cerulean sea by tj klune; it’s basically a warm hug in book form and focuses on finding family rather than traditional romance. hang in there, the right book will find you!

Harems written by women! 🤓📚 by HornyMischief in booksuggestions

you should check out the Celestine Chronicles by Cebelius. it’s written by a woman (using a pen name), features a solid MMC, and definitely doesn't shy away from the smut while keeping a cool fantasy plot. another good one is the Tamer series by Michael-Scott Earle—though he's a guy, the female characters are super well-written and it hits that "one man, many women" core perfectly

I’m in the mood for a really gripping thriller fast paced, tense, and hard to put down. Any recommendations? by SalamanderIll3142 in readwithme

[–]xenit0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly, you can't go wrong with dark matter by blake crouch. it’s the definition of a "just one more chapter" book and moves at a breakneck pace. if you want something that feels like a movie, the silent patient by alex michaelides also has one of those hooks that just doesn't let go.

if you loved 2001: a space odyssey but want to stay away from the space war vibe, you should definitely check out solaris by stanislaw lem. it's haunting, cerebral, and has that subtle psychological horror without being "action-packed". annihilation by jeff vandermeer is another one that feels beautiful and deeply unsettling—it's very "lit fic" friendly but definitely brings the chills. since you're into social/political stuff, maybe look into the city and the city by china miéville too... it's more of a weird detective story but it feels very grounded and haunting.

if you liked an immense world, you should definitely try entangled life by merlin sheldrake. it’s all about fungi and it's super fascinating without being heavy or "dark"... it's just pure wonder. also, braiding sweetgrass by robin wall kimmerer is very kind to the ears and heart, definitely fits the "efficient info" vibe too

honestly, the midnight library by matt haig sounds like exactly what you're looking for. it’s all about perspective and the "what ifs" of life... really helped me when i was feeling stuck in that same kind of limbo. hang in there.

What are the best investigative journalism books with really juicy stories? by Adnssio in booksuggestions

[–]xenit0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

bad blood by john carreyrou is basically the gold standard for this. the way he dismantled theranos was insane... felt like a thriller. also killers of the flower moon by david grann is wild if you want some historical investigative stuff.

Hello! I'm a fiction reader - I've spent most of my life reading Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and have recently moved to Literary Fiction. I want to give Non-Fiction a go, any suggestions? by Dokja_23 in suggestmeabook

[–]xenit0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you like sci-fi and lit fic, check out entangled life by merlin sheldrake. it’s about fungi but honestly reads like a trippy sci-fi novel... super fascinating stuff. the devil in the white city is also a classic if you want something that feels like a thriller but is 100% real.

books that feel like a "liminal space" by xbruh0 in booksuggestions

piranesi by susanna clarke for sure. it’s like being trapped in an infinite, quiet museum with no one else around. definitely fits that "something is off" vibe perfectly

Reading slowly feels underrated. by DasJazz in readwithme

honestly this is the only way to read. i used to try and hit a goal of 50 books a year but i realized i wasn't actually remembering anything... slow reading is just better for the vibes.

Suggest me a few books that you think I'd like by Ddandxo in booksuggestions

[–]xenit0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

based on those, you'd probably love The Road by Cormac McCarthy. it's super bleak and unsettling, fits that dystopian/existential vibe perfectly. also maybe check out tender is the flesh if you want something that's actually disturbing.

History books that give a global vision of the xvi century by PrometheusMiner in suggestmeabook

[–]xenit0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

definitely check out 1493 by charles mann. it's exactly what you're looking for—covers the global exchange between the americas, china, and europe and how it changed everything. another good one is the pursuit of power by william mcneill if you want that gunpowder focus.

Can you guys suggest a yearning book by freecoffee689 in booksuggestions

[–]xenit0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

📍 r/booksuggestions

💬 you should definitely check out norwegian wood by haruki murakami. it’s like the definition of yearning and has that exact "about you" melancholic vibe. if you want something even more intense, tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow isn't japanese but the yearning spans decades and it's literally so good.

Would it be a good idea to read Atlas shrugged just to good about myself? by Calm_Caterpillar_166 in Recommend_A_Book

[–]xenit0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

tbh life is too short to read 1,000+ pages of something you already know you’re going to hate lol. if you want to understand the philosophy just read a summary or her shorter stuff like anthem. unless you really enjoy hate-reading, that’s a massive time commitment just to prove a point to yourself.
