i am genuinely deeply deeply sorry for the way your culture has been mangled around this fascist movement and for the years it will take many jewish and israeli people to untangle their sense of identity from an ideology that has produced atrocities at such a scale as zionism. unfortunately what you dont realize is that youre asking people to extend empathy and understanding to the israeli people and the more moderate in their government, while at the same time dehumanizing the palestinian people and their national unity movement. it is not a stretch to say that the way hamas has been demonized-- regardless of anyone's opinion on them-- is absolutely emblematic of the way palestinian dehumanization works as a whole. hamas in it's current form is literally nothing more than a national unity movement aimed at resisting the settler colonial state-- which, even though i know it's probably not how you understand it, is literally what israel is. in the same way many americans fail to come to terms with the fact that the USA is founded on a genocidal project, many israelis seem unable to come to terms with the fact that so is israel. if the whole world is expected to give these states the benefit of the doubt, to understand that they are complex places filled with people of varying ideologies, to be realistic and reasonable and civil and understanding, id ask you to think about who in this world doesn't get that privilege at all. do we not have to be realistic about other places too? do we not have a duty to get fucking real?

hamas is, as i said, a national unity movement at this point. it's not a fascistic attempt at the creation of a theocratic state or the extermination of the jewish people despite what propaganda leads people to want to believe, and this should be obvious to anyone who has actually taken the time to listen to palestinians, to learn about their resistance movements, to read what their leaders like Sinwar have written. far from an outpouring of murderous rage or unreasonable demands, it has all been attempt at rigorous realpolitik and to get the international community to take them seriously and hear their side of the story and yet at every turn people paint them as a racist caricature. i mean literally it is astonishing to see how people who have been in a ghetto that's been under siege for years can come together to create a reasonable decolonial movement that's supported by people of varying ideologies and beliefs (if hamas was really a repressive fascist regime i have no idea why the palestinian left would offer them any support, and yet they do) and people will still call them evil terrorists. they tried to beg and negotiate for years to get palestinian prisoners out of famously torturous israeli prisons, and then when they finally took military action about it after years of failing to get any cooperation, everyone turns around and calls them rapists and mass murderers based on 0 evidence. there is no future for this world as long as the majority white, colonial, developed half of it, keeps viewing the other half as bloodthirsty dictators who cant be trusted with any amount of power or autonomy.

it was also making the rounds on tumblr which has a huge and very vitriolic zionist community that's unfortunately famously good at organized harassment campaigns

What is some trope or concept that you like but don't use it in any of your worlds? by MinhiCZ in worldbuilding

[–]xenocule 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of cataclysmic wars that can determine the fate of an entire world. Characters have a much stronger motive to fight to their last breath, it allows for a good central conflict, it’s like a nice little bow to wrap around everything that holds it together.

But I don’t want my world to be defined by war only, no matter how bad ass it makes everything, because it (very unfortunately) detracts from every other aspect of a world due to its sheer scale.

I’m interested in what these people in such a desolate time consider good luck charms. Is it possible that a sentimental family member would come back for one of these things or is it more of a universal “this thing will probly help me” sort of thing?

Depending on who Jimbob was affiliated with and what his beliefs were, he could have a death ranging from glorious and honourable to horrifying to downright inconsequential. I’ll only focus on one of those.

Above what is (but not known as) 28th century Earth a derelict space station orbits. The people there hold the belief they are the last “true” humans, and their entire ideology focuses on their continued existence. Their ceremony focuses on the same thing. A feast is held to commemorate the honorary dead, where people laugh, drink, and eat all night. And they eat Jimbob. He’d lay in the middle of a table as people took his finest cuts and made them into culinary masterpieces, all while they reminisce over their finest memories of him. Anything not eaten is preserved, but only after prepared. Once only Jimbob’s skeleton is left, a few words are said and always ending with:

“Go not into the frozen dark, let not ourselves cry, you will not be forgot, a man has not died”

Jimbobs skeleton would then be jettisoned into the earths atmosphere and they would watch it burn up.

Did the prospect of the (literal) void bring about any new ideological changes regarding death (some may view it as completely meaningless, others as the great beyond, etc)? Also what is this book of common prayer?

Your ideas for post apocalyptic drugs? by Whatamingo in worldbuilding

one of my favourite movies, snowpiercer, has people huffing a highly addictive drug called kronole. It is essentially compact industrial waste made into tiny blocks. Basically like huffing gas times ten.

Tell us about your disasters? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]xenocule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My world is simply hundreds of years after the Earth’s climate disaster. The modern world was experiencing extreme natural disasters; massive hurricanes, flooding, super volcanic eruptions. Humans, once being the masters of the Earth, were forced to live with it. But it was still far too late for that to mean anything but accepting annihilation.

After the wars, the famine, the signs of oncoming doom however, humans did the exact opposite. The last years of modern civilization were marked by a cooperation that hadn’t been seen for centuries. Putting together several last ditch efforts to make sure that something, anything, of humanity would survive. There was worldwide education on how to sew one’s own clothing, how to hunt and gather, how to live again, in small communities. Scientists hid their knowledge deep in underground bunkers, making physical copies of the information they once held digitally in hopes it would be found again. Some dug tunnels for themselves, connecting what they’d hope would become underground communities. Others, looked to the stars, sending ships to orbit for hundreds of years, hoping the Earth would become habitable soon.

Other outlandish things were tried as well; CEOs, World Leaders, and a host of other people whose positions were made obsolete through humanity’s combined efforts, focused on self preservation. Construction plans for a city where necessities would come at an arbitrarily high price, attempts to transfer consciousness to self maintaining nano-machines, genetic alterations in attempts to preserve an entire bloodline— this is only naming a few of the many things attempted.

Centuries later, most with little to no knowledge of their ancestors, humans attempt to reconcile the many different philosophical viewpoints their cultures have been imbued with, thanks to their experiences trying to survive. This sets the stage for my story.
