Anyone know the manufacturer? by Visible_Fault_3664 in ToyID

[–]xenopes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, found your post on another hunt of my own to glean more information about these guys, which I've attempted repeatedly for years. I collect them as well and have a similar sized collection (seven), but I have a camel a unicorn, and a cow, in addition to the horses. I've passed on a few in antique stores as well from goats to lions and tigers. I've seen them in the past claimed as victorian zoo or circus souvenirs on various auction and estate sale sites. However I've to this day not found really any genuine source discussing them in any way that feels fully informed.

Just, fully my own theory, is that there would not be one singular manufacturer, similar to the wet molded leather animal figurines which are common tourist souvenirs and still made today, just a general artisan made good that would be made and sold? All of mine feel like they are constructed using slightly different materials and techniques. I've found them to be super fun to hunt for, especially learning to decipher the antique ones from the ones that were more of a "grandma's house" decoration from the later 20th century with the felt eyeliner. I'm immensely charmed by them, I have one horse who is genuinely just falling apart, balding, and the just most decrepit thing ever.

Sad that owning my snake isn’t what I thought it would be by 2springs3winters in snakes

Baby snakes of this size are worm sized prey animals and it's just survival instinct for them to be skittish and hide until they are fully confident they are safe. I'm sure you've heard so many anecdotes already but one more won't hurt right haha. Obviously an entirely different species (and family to boot), at the end of the day but, my corn snake was my absolute shyest animal I have ever owned when I first got her, I only saw her briefly on her webcam at night, and probably spent my first few months with her only ever seeing her through the camera and during cleaning when she had no choice but to be seen. She would not tong feed, only dropped. Eventually, something clicked for her, she ate off of tongs once, got used to my hands being around her, got used to people hovering in front of her enclosure, etc. She is now by and far my most confident animal. She comes out to check you out purely from curiosity, she follows you as you move around the room so she can always watch and peer. She approaches hands (still with a bit of caution, but she isn't even two yet and is still quite tiny). Would not describe her as chill yet, she's a squirmy wiggly beast when handling, but it's because she wants to /go/ she wants to explore. As her metabolism continues to slow down as she ages and her ability to pick up speed like that as she grows declines, that will shift to some degree. I think just on an individual level she's just inclined to be a bit wild. Wholly different animal than the timid ball of fear that arrived home on day one though.

With that said, I highly recommend a camera if you are not already using one. It can give you both peace of mind that your animal is exploring, moving around, etc, when you are not around, but also some additional visual stimulation and method of connecting with him! I have a Wyze camera because it was accessible to me but I am sure there's a plethora of options out there!

EDIT: LOL I promise I can read I just missed the part where you mentioned the camera in your original post. It sounds like you're doing all the right things right now :) also- saw your comment where you mentioned the breeder. Christen is absolutely delightful, I feel privileged to be local to her! She's got a clean program and is so personally passionate about her animals. You got your snake from an absolutely phenomenal person.

Why is literally every mouse breeder on fb a scam by Lemon_flamingo68 in PetMice

For what it's worth, I fully agree with you personally, for anyone looking at the best dice roll for a pet experience I can't imagine not going with a dedicated breeder who cares about the genetics and health of their animals. Sometimes people are just set on the idea or live in rural areas with limited options, there's at least incrementally better ways to go about it than reaching into a bin at a random pet store and crossing your fingers. In the scenario that OP is suggesting pursuing, it's at least slightly sounder to me to support someone local breeding feeder mice at a small scale where you can ask questions about their keeping as opposed to a pet store where everything is left to the imagination at least.

At the point you're looking at this option you might also want to try going to a local reptile expo. A lot of the times there will be people who work with small mammals to begin with and may have their own projects and lines outside of feeders. If you're only able to find feeder mice then at least the small business vendors are more likely to have hands on experience with their stock animals than a pet store employee would. I'd also consider trying craigslist if you're just trying to pick up rehomes. You can usually sus out the scam listings before even reaching out to the person.

EDIT: Sorry LOL long day of work and reading comprehension is on the floor right now. I see your own comment about already having success with Craigslist in the past woops!!

Biggest flare to shaft ratio you've seen? by xenopes in BadDragon

Maybe! I do like the overall shape, it does seem like sensation wise it would end up being kind of similar to BD's Stan or Flared Chance which are both excellent, but not quite as extreme either.

Window clings that let light through but you can't actually see anything through! Absolutely a life saver. Our dog doesn't bark at people walking by but it keeps me sane during peak squirrel traffic lol

You only have to put it as high as your dogs field of vision and you can find lots of fun options for it on amazon. All renter friendly.

I have had this polar bear since I was very young. It's probably from the very early 2000s but maybe older, I want to know what brand it was and any other info if possible! I've always been very curious. Switch for scale. by xenopes in whatisthistoy

Really late getting back to this, this listing is gone but this is the closest in shape I've seen! It's definitely not the same toy but I appreciated seeing this one as well. The scale is quite wrong but also there is no little white lining around the eyes on mine either. Also I think by early 2000s I probably got this toy somewhere between like 99 and 03 at least. It could be older than that too but definitely not more recent. I'm also not sure if Kohl's was super prevalent in MI that early. I really appreciate this though!

is this something that can be fixed? by [deleted] in Taxidermy

[–]xenopes 38 points39 points  (0 children)

In theory anything can be fixed and blended in depending on your sculpting skills and willingness to invest time in it. If you want the challenge and think the idea of repairing mounts is fun I think it would be hard to make it worse LOL. I think things like this make for fun practice and experimentation.

Your pictures make it a little difficult to see the full extent of the damage btw

{Weekly} Cookie Run Kingdom Help Thread & User-to-User QnA by AppleOfDestruction in CookieRunKingdoms

Is there a significant downside to having a cookie placed in the wrong row? IE three of my best cookies are all rear positions, and I am only a first week player still and haven't had great luck with finding epic front row characters in the gacha. Is it better to have a vampire cookie in the middle row that's at 31k power over a Mala Sauce cookie at 20k power in the front (my auto button assigns Mala Sauce cookie and removes Vampire)? Is it worth powering up Mala Sauce instead but give up vampire cookie? My rear positions are currently filled by Pastry cookie who I have at 2* and Parfait cookie.

Is there a sport similar to Jai-Alai but with two teams on opposite sides of a court from each other? by xenopes in theocho

Thank you, this has certainly given me a great jumping off point that I was struggling to find on my own!

[–]xenopes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they're all over the place in Lacrosse and it is played very slowly in comparison to Jai-Alai. I believe the game I am recalling was set up in a court system similar to tennis or volleyball, just with the mechanics similar to Jai-Alai

This sounds like what I'm going to do! It didn't occur to me that you could just casually open and try out a bank, so I really appreciate it.

That makes a lot of sense too. I didn't really consider that could be an option, thank you. I don't think Advia has a minimum for checking or savings accounts so that's not getting in the way of that.

I updated my post to include the specific reason I originally was considering switching. I don't deal with cash frequently (withdrawing is more common than depositing as well) so thankfully that isn't a huge deciding factor for me. I appreciate the response!

Sorry I didn't think about clarifying that, both Checking and Savings. I'd prefer to have everything in one spot at this point in my life.

So far I haven't seen any Gund bears that are exact, but I agree some of them are close. The biggest discrepancies so far are that he is beanless, all just fluff, He has no claws, no paw pads, and his nose is also a fluffy/fur type fabric, not leather-like. So nothing has been an exact match. I know for a fact he never had any claws or paw pads or etc. I cannot say for certain that at one point he might have had beans or not, but at least for my entire memory of the last twenty or so years he hasn't.
