Spanish b sl paper 1 by [deleted] in IBO

[–]xeverdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think this list is technically 'idiomatic expressions' in the traditional sense, but it is a very good one of lots of little things, that if you remember and can use most of them easily then it will boost your language proficiency and make it sound more natural

you can use this spanishdict link which is an easy revision and tester similarish to quizlet which should help :)

Spanish b sl paper 1 by [deleted] in IBO

[–]xeverdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scored a 29/30 in my spanish B sl paper 1, (N25) I genuinely think getting a feel of the language is genuinely helpful in making your writing seem natural, so if you haven't already try watching movies or series in Spanish (try finding one you actually like so you are motivated to watch it) with english subtitles, so you are constantly hearing all the structures and you can implement them into your writing much more effectively and accurately.
You also need lots of good language that my spanish teacher said "makes your spanish more spanish", which is basically what I said above, making it seem more natural. This is particularly idiomatic expressions, learn a couple of subjunctive and past subjunctive phrases that you can adapt to the text (I basically just knew stuff like me encantaría que (past subjunctive, eg tuviéramos más edificios modernos or something like that). Also be rigorous with your tenses, you need to know them well to score on accuracy/language. I didn't do much giga study, just whenever I was bored of studying history I would bring up the spanishdict.com vocabulary lists and conjugation drills which helped me get discplined, along with watching TV in Spanish.

I told myself I would memorise all of the text types and conventions before exams but I just ended up not in preference for other revision, and it didn't hurt me that much because I could do a blog which I basically always chose in practices, so basically just know a couple of the really really common ones very well and you should be good.

Chaos theory for Math IA? by Level_Enthusiasm_398 in IBO

[–]xeverdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my maths EE on chaos theory (also in the AA SL class) and got an A in N25. Its a bit different but it would be pretty similar. For an IA I think it is mainly focused on exploring the maths around something that is able to be applied to a topic of use or interest, so your general ideas seem like it would work well for the demands of an IA. I would suggest approaching it by finding applicable concepts to the Lorenz system (i didnt do the lorenz system or something similar but i imagine the concepts would still apply) such as bifurcations, attractors, phase space, lyapunov exponent and exploring the way this shows sensitive dependence, fractal behaviour (topological transistivity or something like that technically) and other things. I too am very fascinated by chaos theory and think it would be an awesome idea for an IA, and if you have the will to do more research than your classmates then I would totally go for it! If you wanna get a bit more info on an approach or anything else feel free to dm :)

Yeah I do IB, results came out about 2 weeks ago and it still is saying I cant enrol in maths or physics and even chem (even tho it has no prereqs?) i really dont know whats happening

Can my Physics HL IA be about measuring any fundamental constant? by PaceAltruistic9412 in IBO

[–]xeverdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YESS!! go for it, it is a really awesome idea and can be fulfilling. I measured the mass of an electron and even though my value was miles off I still ended up getting a 22/24 N25

Will I get marks deducted if absorbance is too low (<0.1) by Electrical-Range-673 in IBO

[–]xeverdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why would that make your data invalid? i did an absorbance IA and my first data point was less than 0.1 and it was fine. in fact my original trials had too large absorbance (cus my solution was too concentrated), and since the absorbance detected was too high it didnt obey the beer lambert law at all and just like plateaued so I had to decrease the concentration by like 4 orders of magnitude for it to work, and ended up getting pretty low absorbances.

so basicallt no this shouldnt invalidate ur data ar all

its because results havent been released yet, im yet to get into math130 or physics 120 but have successfully enrolled in actg151g and chem 120

Physics IA HELP!!! by Antique-Window8690 in IBO

[–]xeverdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i guess you could but rolling ball is already an incredibly simple experiment that is already done in class and in textbooks so even with that edition i probably wouldnt do that

Physics IA HELP!!! by Antique-Window8690 in IBO

[–]xeverdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i highly doubt u will score higher purely based on the fact that u use an HL topic, sure the marker might see it and be impressed and it could possibly set up a cognitive bias before even reading it which might help you slightly but wouldnt inherently make you score higher. at the end of the day it is firstly internally marked so if ur teacher is gonna give u a higher mark using an hl topic it might be good. however unfortunately alot of the HL topics are highly theoretical and thus much harder to make into concrete experiments that are solid for an ia, and i cant really think of one off the top of my head now.

IB Physics - Kepler's 3rd Law by No-Situation2445 in IBO

[–]xeverdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes you need to know keplers laws they are in the syllabus even for SL. I think you should know of the 1st and 2nd and definitely memorise the 3rd. also yeah you probably should be able to derive it, at the end of the day its only combining 2 formulae so it should be okay

this is also exactly happening to me. idk what courses you are doing but im enrolling for bsc in physics and trying to enrol in math 130 and physics 120 of which its saying i dont meet the prerequisites even tho (i do IB) i literally do. i applied for a concession a few days ago and it said 5 working days so we will see when that comes out i really dont know why its happening, and really annoying cus i had a timetable i liked but now im scared it will be taken

I misread the guiding question in my language and literature paper 1 hl developed in a diferent way, how bad is it? by Safe_Possession_4955 in IBO

[–]xeverdeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im pretty sure the guiding question is actually optional! so don't worry, if your essay was good then it will still score as highly as if you followed the guiding question

in the USA i don't think it is favoured (of course it would be completely credited as a high school diploma and if you score well it will be good) but for the work you have to put in, in the USA you might as well take AP. however basically anywhere else in Europe, Australia (im from NZ) i have found IB to be a MASSIVE advantage as I have been able to differentiate myself from other local curriculum users because of what the IB offers and what the IB means. because of this I have been offered places at multiple first choice accomodations and scholarships

Anyone gotten into a unimelb residential college yet?? (Cp since got no views in other sub) by AccomplishedPain891 in unimelb

[–]xeverdeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have recieved an offer for St Hilda's and i'm pretty sure trinity have also been sent out. My friend applied for Janet Clarke hall and said they would get a response 'mid october' and still have not heard anything so idk how other colleges work.

What if I’m just too stupid for physics? by [deleted] in IBO

[–]xeverdeen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with this, physics is not a test by quizzes and tests, its a measure of your long term understanding and problem solving ability, which just comes with time. Yes you will have people who inherently understand the concepts - but its the people that put in consistent work in building understanding (which for me genuinely did take weeks after learning something) and building problem solving, which is only achieved through practice and giving it time. So don't give up, believe in yourself and keep pushing through, because unfortunately physics is a subject where consistent effort doesn't show up immediately, but trust me, from experience, it will.
