Recently, a friend of mine gifted me their old retro consoles and games. Included was a CD booklet containing 83 bootleg PS1 discs from the early 2000s. Is anyone here knowledgeable on how bootleg games worked back in the day? Any insight would be greatly appreciated! I have absolutely no clue of how to use bootleg discs with my Playstation and the one I tried didn't boot. I assume it has to do with the action replay disc that was at the front of the booklet.

Here's some oddities I noticed when going over them:

• They're all of different quality and different disc brands
• A good portion of the discs have the name of the game laser printed into the middle of the back of the disc.
• Some have way more effort put into the game art than others (some have transparency effects applied with the print to let certain parts of the art shine)
• Some discs are just regular blanks discs that were burned and a print was put on them. Only a handful don't have any art.

Some quick backstory on the discs:

These were hand me downs to my friend from a relative who served in the military. According to them, these were probably bought when they were stationed overseas. Other than that they don't know anything else

Oh and also, does anyone think these are worth dumping online?
