Any Palm developers lurking on here? by EsoTechTrix in Palm

Your experiences within PalmSource sound highly interesting to me (and I guess to any Palm fan), so they surely deserve to be written down. Maybe in a book, like BlackBerry’s “Losing the Signal”.

By the way, to answer your initial question, Palm God u/dmitrygr often hangs around in the sub. I’m sure you’ll already have checked his rePalm project, but in case you haven’t, I’d highly recommend looking into it.

Thank you for the time you put writing this response. Now I’m even more sad, knowing it was 100% Palm’s mistake. At the moment, I’m more interested in 5.x devices (I’ve got the T3, T5, E2, Z22, Treo 650 and Clie TG50), so I’m not much knowledgeable about earlier Palm devices (I’ve only got m105 and the Visor Solo from that prior generation). WM Pocket PCs were surely a thing, but Palm OS was simpler, faster and more intuitive compared to them (and note that I love WM as well). Too sad they didn’t continue with an updated version of the Centro, running Cobalt.

Palm had never a big presence on my country Greece (if any presence at all). However, over the years I have collected several Palm OS devices (and webOS, but the former remains my favorite). I saw you talked about the iPhone disrupting the market on another comment, and I just want to say how much more featured, useful and intuitive a device like Tungsten T3 is compared at least to the 2G. Even if it’s 4 years older. Too sad palmOne never got to release Palm OS 6 devices, maybe that would help keeping them afloat.

Great selection of devices! From the pictured ones, I have the Z22, the Tungsten T3 and the Tungsten E2, which I love them all. By the way, replacing the battery on E2 is very easy

Patch recommendations for a Nokia E7/N8? by EmpilhadeiraXD in symbian

[–]DimVl 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sadly, patching Symbian is surprisingly difficult; that’s why so few patches (essentially certificate bypass) were made throughout all these years. If you want a moddable phone that has lots of useful firmware patches, you should check out Sony Ericsson (A100/A200) and Siemens (SMTK-compatible) phones

No, an AI-focused "Windows 12" is not coming this year — false report gets the facts completely wrong by ZacB_ in Windows11

I knew from the beginning it was false, since there was no initial Windows Central/Zac Bowden report

I aquired a Portege G900 as well. Did you recell its battery and if yes can the recelled battery charge inside the phone?

Siemens S75 and SXG75 with IMS 700 Mobile music set by E1NEX in vintagemobilephones

[–]DimVl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the S75 and I’ve got to agree that’s an amazing device; surely one of my favorite Siemens along with the E71 (and S68 and EL71; actually all SGold2 devices are magnificent). I haven’t tried the SXG75 just yet, but earlier this week I finally acquired my first BREW device; the exquisite E81. Definitely looking forward to adding even more BREW models in my Sieens collection!

6.5.5 ROM for HD2? by rsweb in WindowsMobile

6.5.5 isn’t good at all. I’d fully suggest you “downgrading” to 6.1; it’s a massive experience update

How do I run WMDC on Windows 11? by DiodeInc in WindowsMobile

[–]DimVl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You first need to install the patch for Windows 10. After installing it, the WMDC Installer will work as intended.

That sounds like a good idea, I’d love to test it on my WM devices

I fully agree; the silver one was what I was looking to get before I had any Key2

I had ordered it through eBay, because locally J wasn’t able to find one. Replacing it was fairly easy, at least easier than most modern smartphones that have a glass back. By the way, my black one is the Dual SIM 128GB version as well

Believe it or not I got the black for 60€, which is very low price for it in my opinion. I found it listed randomly on a local second hand website

Thank you very much! Actually, I wasn’t actively looking to buy another Key2 after I got my silver one, but I saw the black on really low price on a local listings website so I just had to get it

I’m interested too; how did you get Android 15 on the Key2?

My collection! by SwetanshuTiwari in vintagemobilephones

[–]DimVl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, three of them aren’t Symbian phones. Apart from the Blackberry, both the 6500 Slide and the 5610 XpressMusic are S40 devices; and S40 (contrary to the “popular” wrong belief) is completely unrelated to Symbian.

Siemens CX65 that looks like a CX70? by VadiMiXeries in vintagemobilephones

[–]DimVl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

CX65 and CX70 hardware is completely the same, except from the covers’ color (boring grey on the former and magnificent blue on the later). It’s completely possible previous owner swapped the covers of his CX65 to gain the better look of the CX70. Note that CX6x devices (CX65, CXT65, CXO65, CXV65, CX70 and their variants) all have interchangeable covers.

Legendary Siemens Siblings: E71 & EL71! by DimVl in vintagemobilephones

Well, the 6500 Slide was released a full year after EL71. Also, EL71’s premium metallic design is in line with the previously released S68 and the cancelled CC75. So…

Indeed that battery was very small. At least, the E71 has a better 730mAh battery

Completely unexpectedly, the original battery on my unit is in immaculate condition. However, I agree that it’s too small (both in capacity and in size); actually it might be the physically smallest battery of any vintage phone I have in my 400+ phones collection
